Position Summary The Hospital Controller oversees all core accounting operations and ensures the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of the organization's financial activities. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this role leads the accounting team, manages financial reporting, strengthens internal controls, and partners with operational leaders to support informed decision‑making. The Controller plays a key role in budgeting, audit preparation, cash management, and continuous improvement initiatives across the finance function. Key ResponsibilitiesAccounting & Financial Reporting Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes. Oversee general ledger management, journal entries, and account reconciliations. Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with GAAP. Manage fixed assets, capital project reporting, depreciation schedules, and inventory accounting. Ensure timely and accurate reporting of patient receivables, prepaid assets, and balance sheet accounts. Coordinate audit preparation and respond to external auditors and regulatory agencies. Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with hospital, state, and federal regulations. Operational & Team Leadership Supervise, mentor, and evaluate accounting staff, including AP, payroll, and general accounting. Oversee payroll processing, accounts payable, and cash disbursements. Partner with Treasury on cash flow forecasting, bank reconciliations, and liquidity management. Collaborate with department leaders to interpret financial results and support operational performance. Drive process improvements, automation, and workflow efficiencies across the finance department. Budgeting, Analysis & Strategy Support development of the annual operating and capital budgets. Analyze financial performance, variances, and trends; recommend corrective actions. Provide financial insights to senior leadership to support strategic planning. Assist with reimbursement reporting, cost accounting, and productivity analysis. Ensure accurate financial data for decision‑making, forecasting, and long‑range planning. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required. CPA strongly preferred (or equivalent experience in healthcare finance). 7+ years of progressive hospital accounting or finance experience, including leadership roles. Prior experience in a hospital or healthcare environment required. Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and healthcare financial operations. Proficiency with financial systems and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Skills & Competencies Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Ability to lead teams, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines. High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Collaborative, service‑oriented, and able to work effectively with clinical and operational leaders. Work Environment Standard hospital or healthcare office setting. Requires frequent sitting, computer work, and occasional standing or walking. Minimal exposure risk to communicable diseases or bloodborne pathogens.
