Description We are looking for an experienced Controller to support financial leadership for a long-term contract opportunity in Latham, New York. This role is well suited to a detail-oriented candidate with a strong background in municipal, government, or similar public-sector accounting environments. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in financial oversight, compliance, reporting, and documentation practices while helping maintain accurate and audit-ready records.
Responsibilities:
Direct day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring financial records are accurate, organized, and aligned with applicable standards.
Prepare, review, and present financial reports to support leadership decision-making and regulatory compliance.
Oversee fund accounting activities, including tracking restricted funding sources and maintaining proper financial segregation.
Coordinate audit preparation efforts by compiling supporting documentation and responding to requests related to single audits and other reviews.
Manage reporting tied to government funding, grants, and contract requirements, with careful attention to deadlines and accuracy.
Establish and maintain strong document management practices, including scanning, organizing, and retaining financial records for easy retrieval.
Monitor internal controls and recommend process improvements that strengthen accountability and reduce reporting risk.
Partner with internal stakeholders and external agencies to ensure compliance with public-sector financial guidelines and documentation requirements. Requirements
Background in Controller or senior-level accounting roles with responsibility for full-cycle financial oversight.
Experience in government, municipal, town, city, or closely related public-sector environments is strongly preferred.
Knowledge of fund accounting, particularly within non-profit or publicly funded organizations.
Familiarity with single audit preparation and compliance requirements connected to government funding.
Experience preparing reports for federal programs, grants, contracts, or other government-related financial activity.
Strong document control skills, including maintaining organized financial files and supporting records.
Ability to compile, scan, and manage large volumes of financial documentation with a high level of accuracy.
Proficiency in maintaining compliance-focused accounting processes and supporting audit readiness.
