Job DescriptionJob Description Position Overview Jacobs Real Estate Advisors is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Controller to lead the accounting and financial operations for a growing portfolio of commercial real estate properties. This is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing all aspects of the accounting department, building and developing a high-performing team, and ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of financial reporting across multiple properties. Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and oversee all accounting department operations, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger maintenance, financial reporting, and month-end close processes.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop the accounting team - delegating responsibilities, reviewing work product, and continuously improving departmental workflows and efficiency.
  • Supervise full-cycle accounts payable processing and tenant billing across multiple commercial properties.
  • Oversee accounts receivable functions, including collections, tenant ledger management, and CAM reconciliations.
  • Review payroll processing for accuracy and ensure payroll-related reporting and cost allocations are properly recorded.
  • Review and finalize monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring all reporting deadlines are consistently met.
  • Prepare annual operating budgets and actively monitor financial performance against forecasts throughout the year.
  • Assist with audits, tax preparation, regulatory compliance requirements, and cash flow management across the portfolio.
  • Identify and implement process improvements and technology solutions to increase scalability, efficiency, and overall department performance. Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with prior exposure to real estate or commercial property accounting preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience managing an accounting team and overseeing full department operations.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial analysis. Preferred
  • Experience with property management and accounting software (e.g., Yardi, MRI, AppFolio).
  • Familiarity with CAM reconciliations and NNN lease structures.
