Job Description

Our client is a boutique life and annuity insurance company focused on long‑duration products and disciplined asset‑liability management. The firm is seeking a Chief Accounting Officer to lead all accounting, financial reporting, and control functions and serve as a key member of the executive leadership team. Key Responsibilities Own all aspects of corporate and statutory accounting, including GAAP and Statutory financial reporting for life and annuity products Serve as the company's principal accounting authority, ensuring compliance with US GAAP, SAP, SOX/internal controls, and insurance regulatory requirements Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including preparation and review of financial statements and disclosures Lead regulatory filings and direct engagement with state insurance departments, regulators, and external auditors Partner closely with actuarial, investments, reinsurance, risk, and FP&A teams to ensure appropriate accounting treatment of complex transactions Establish, maintain, and continuously enhance internal controls, accounting policies, and governance frameworks Provide leadership, mentorship, and development to the accounting and financial reporting team Support strategic initiatives, including new product launches, reinsurance transactions, capital initiatives, and growth‑related activities Act as a key stakeholder in system implementations, process automation, and operational scale‑up initiatives Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting; CPA required 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with significant leadership responsibility within the life and annuity insurance industry Deep expertise in Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP) and strong command of US GAAP Demonstrated experience interacting with regulators, external auditors, and senior executive stakeholders Strong understanding of insurance products, reserves, reinsurance, and investment accounting Prior experience in a smaller or growth‑oriented insurance platform strongly preferred; public accounting background is a plus Proven ability to balance hands‑on execution with strategic leadership Highly collaborative, detail‑oriented, and comfortable operating in a lean, fast‑moving environment
