Job Description:
SUNY Schenectady County Community College seeks a dynamic and strategic leader to serve as Vice President of Development. Reporting directly to the College President, the Vice President of Development acts as the College's liaison to the SUNY Schenectady Foundation, Inc. The Vice President of Development assumes responsibility for planning, managing, implementing, and evaluating development programs to seek revenue for priorities of the College. The Vice President of Development is responsible for the Foundation's Strategic Plan, working with Foundation Board leadership to meet yearly goals, and expanding all giving programs. The Vice President of Development represents the SUNY Schenectady Foundation in community organizations and activities that involve fundraising. Typical activities include preparing fundraising proposals, mailings, and promotional materials; soliciting gifts from potential donors; providing stewardship for major donors; overseeing special events such as the annual Food for Thought & All That Jazz event; maintaining alumni and business contacts; managing alumni relations programs; and coordinating major capital campaigns. The Vice President of Development will consult with College professional staff and the Foundation Board members to maintain a progressive and ongoing development program. The Vice President of Development is a 12-month, full time professional staff position. Supervisory Responsibility The Vice President of Development supervises support and professional staff in the Foundation. Reporting Responsibility As a member of the President's Council, the Vice President of Development will report directly to the President of the College. T will be liaison responsibilities with the SUNY Schenectady Foundation, Inc. Board of Directors, alumni, members of the College and business communities, and outside consultants according to the needs of the development program.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan, manage, implement and evaluate development programs for the College through the SUNY Schenectady Foundation, Inc. Develop strategies to strengthen the College's development activities in the areas of annual giving, major gifts, corporate giving, planned giving, and stewardship. Develop and maintain the relationships with alumni, corporations, College faculty/staff, Foundation Board Members and other potential donors in support of the College's development programs. Provide strategic leadership and oversight in directing and implementing the Foundation's long-range private fundraising programs and services: Annual Giving, Donor Relations, Private Foundation/Corporate Relations, Major and Planned Gifts, Special Events, Alumni Relations, Foundation Communications, Database Services (fiscal record keeping and expenditures, funds management and stewardship, gift processing/recording), Reporting, and development of and adnce to policies and procedures as well as general daily operations. Develop an integrated multi-year, sequential development strategy to execute, manage and successfully complete comprehensive and/or capital campaigns. Direct and supervise Foundation staff in their respective roles in collaboration with Campaign leadership. Manage own qualified prospect portfolio. Spends significant time in identification, cultivation, and solicitation and stewardship functions with assigned prospects/donors. Produce group cultivation events. Direct and manage all aspects of prospect/donor tracking system: setting accountable metrics, coding, reporting, and leading qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities. Oversee the gift processing and alumni management system (currently Raisers Edge NXT). Develop and monitor the SUNY Schenectady Foundation, Inc. annual budget. Work closely with Foundation bookkeeper and auditors to ensure accurate financial allocation, records, and reports. Responsible for all financial records. Provide College officials and Foundation Finance Committee monthly reports and related financial information as needed. Oversee the development and management of Foundation and Alumni publications and events . Contribute content to the College's Annual Report. Oversee the development and management of the College's alumni relations program. Responsible for the content of the alumni/development portion of the College website. Oversee the administration of the Foundation scholarship program.
Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree. Minimum of five years' experience in broad-based development. Experience with successful solicitation of gifts of six figures and above from individuals; experience with corporate and foundation; annual giving; and planned giving. Excellent skills in persuasive public speaking and written communications, and the ability to present ideas in a group setting. Strong ability to interact and develop relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts. Ability to manage a department, including supervising employees and managing performance. Capacity to manage and motivate professional staff and volunteers. Ability to work with many constituencies, both within the College and the external community. Understanding of and ability to articulate the role, mission and value of a community college. Understanding of fundraising databases. Ability to develop and manage a departmental budget and support financial planning with budget projections. Excellent organizational and time-management skills. Excellent verbal, writing, and presentation skills. Team player and self-starter.
