Full-Time | Exempt About the Role We are a growing multi-unit restaurant organization seeking an experienced and hands-on Controller to lead our accounting operations across multiple brands and entities. This role is responsible for ensuring the integrity of the company's financial records, leading the month-end close process, maintaining strong internal controls, and supporting accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP. The ideal candidate is both a strategic leader and a detail-oriented operator who thrives in fast-paced, high-transaction environments. This position partners closely with executive leadership and oversees the daily execution and performance of the accounting team. What You'll DoAccounting Leadership & Team Management Lead, manage, and develop the accounting team while fostering accountability and operational excellence. Establish clear roles, responsibilities, and workflow processes within the department. Coach team members, monitor performance, and address capacity or process gaps quickly. Ensure the team is properly staffed, trained, and aligned with close and reporting expectations. Month-End Close & Financial Reporting Own and manage the month-end close process, calendar, and deliverables. Review and approve close inputs from Operations, Payroll, AP, and Finance teams. Ensure accurate and timely financial statements for multiple restaurant entities and brands. Maintain clear communication around close timelines, issues, and deliverables. Reconciliations & Internal Controls Maintain balance sheet integrity through timely reconciliations and proper supporting documentation. Oversee accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, intercompany transactions, and cash controls. Ensure strong internal controls, approvals, and documentation retention practices. Identify opportunities for process improvements and operational efficiencies. Audit & Compliance Maintain audit-ready financial records and supporting schedules year-round. Coordinate external audit requests and timelines in partnership with executive leadership. Ensure compliance with accounting policies, banking requirements, lease reporting, and operational standards. Process Improvement & Operational Support Drive adherence to accounting processes, documentation standards, and reporting consistency. Support budget-to-actual reporting and variance analysis. Ensure accurate and supportable bonus and incentive reporting metrics. Partner cross-functionally with Operations, HR/People teams, IT, and Finance to resolve accounting and systems-related issues. QualificationsRequired Experience & Skills 5+ years of progressive accounting leadership experience, preferably in multi-unit restaurant, retail, hospitality, or other high-volume environments. Experience managing accounting teams and overseeing multi-entity financial operations.
Strong understanding of:
GAAP accounting Month-end close processes Balance sheet reconciliations Internal controls and audit readiness Accrual accounting Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/reporting systems. Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments while maintaining accountability and standards. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred. Experience in restaurant accounting or franchise/multi-location operations strongly preferred.
