Job Description
Our CPG client in the Pacific Northwest is searching for a self-motivated, process-driven Controller to elevate their accounting operations, spearhead automation, and build scalable processes. Known well in the northwest, they are distributed nationally in major grocers and known for the quality of their ingredients. Family-owned and operated for a number of years, they remain a privately held company. An engaging brand and team, this client is well-established but also experiencing massive growth! What You Will Do Our client seeks an experienced and detail-oriented Controller to join their finance team. This position reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and has direct management responsibility for the accounting team. You will be an important collaborator in supporting sustainable growth and financial discipline, playing a central role in ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of the company's financial reporting. This is an opportunity to lead the accounting function through a period of meaningful operational change, including the implementation of automation across accounting functions. The Controller will oversee the evaluation, selection, and implementation of cutting-edge AI tools for these purposes.
Financial Reporting:
Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements. Deliver financial reports to the CFO and management team on a consistent, reliable schedule. Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and chart of accounts. Over time, contribute to financial analysis in support of the CFO and broader management team.Accounting Operations & Process Development:
Establish and document robust accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls. Lead the day-to-day management of the accounting team, providing direction, coaching, and accountability for adherence to established processes. Drive continuous improvement across core accounting workflows. Lead the transition to greater automation and AI adoption in accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), trade spend analysis, and credit card reconciliation.Tax & Payroll Compliance:
Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local requirements. Manage sales tax, excise tax, state reporting, and all other regulatory filings. Coordinate with external tax advisors on income tax preparation and compliance matters. Monitor regulatory changes and adjust internal processes accordingly.Fiscal Year-End Close:
Lead the preparation and coordination of the fiscal year-end close process. Prepare and organize supporting schedules and documentation for external auditors or reviewers. Ensure balance sheet reconciliations are current, accurate, and thoroughly documented. Identify and resolve year-end adjustments in a timely manner. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required. Prior experience in a Controller role, with demonstrated ownership of the full accounting function. Proven track record of building and implementing strong accounting processes and internal controls. Experience managing an accounting team and holding staff accountable to defined procedures. Solid understanding of payroll and tax compliance obligations. Hands-on experience managing fiscal year-end close and audit preparation. Experience leading or participating in the adoption of accounting automation tools or ERP improvements. Experience with cost accounting and inventory control. Experience as an accounting professional working in a manufacturing environment, preferably in food, beverage, or other CPG Experience with accounting for a large labor force. Strong working knowledge of GAAP. Familiarity with trade spend management and/or distributor accounting preferred. CPA or CMA designation preferred.
