Job Description

Overview We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to join our financial leadership team. The Assistant Controller will serve as a key leader within the accounting and finance department, reporting directly to the Controller. This role is responsible for overseeing critical accounting functions, supporting financial operations, and assisting with real estate related accounting activities. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in accounting and real estate, with a minimum of 7+ years of professional experience. This position require a hands-on leader who can effectively manage priorities, lead and mentor team members, delegate responsibilities, and collaborate across departments to improve financial processes and operational efficiency. The Assistant Controller will play a pivotal role in the month end closing process, year end review, implementing internal account policies, preparing financial reports, expense management, budgeting, and strategic projects while helping foster a positive, team-oriented work environment.

Responsibilities & Duties:
Lead and oversee the month-end and year-end closing processes to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. Prepare, analyze, and review monthly financial statements, account reconciliations, and managerial reports. Assist the Controller with strategic financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and special projects. Support and manage accounting functions related to real estate operations, property transactions, leases, and related financial reporting. Monitor and improve internal accounting controls, policies, and procedures to enhance operational efficiency and compliance. Review expense management activities including accounts payable, credit card expenses, vendor contracts, utilities, and labor-related costs. Oversee reconciliations of cash accounts, inventory, balance sheet accounts, and other financial records. Coordinate and assist with tax filings including sales tax, fuel tax, and other regulatory reporting requirements. Serve as a subject matter expert for internal accounting systems and assist with implementation of new financial software process improvements. Lead, mentor, and support accounting staff by delegating tasks, managing workflow, and promoting accountability within the department. Conduct regular staff meetings and collaborate with department managers to identify financial trends, KPI variances, and corrective action plans. Crosstrain with team members to strengthen departmental support and continuity. Work collaboratively with leadership and operational teams to improve financial performance and business processes. Maintain confidentiality and accuracy while handling sensitive financial and business information. Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications & Skills:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required. Minimum of 7+ years of progressive accounting experience required. Prior real estate accounting or real estate industry experience required. Previous leadership or supervisory experience with the demonstrated ability to lead teams, delegate responsibilities, and manage workflow effectively. Strong team-oriented mindset while also taking initiative and ownership of projects. Experience in multi-site retail or commercial operations accounting preferred. Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills PDI, VLOOKUPs, and financial reporting functions. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Must be able to pass pre-employment background check and drug screening.

From $80,000.00 per year
