Controller

Description We are looking for an accomplished Non-Profit Controller to join our client's team in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on a Contract basis. This position calls for a hands-on accounting leader who can guide day-to-day financial operations, strengthen reporting accuracy, and support key compliance efforts. The role is well suited for someone who is comfortable working independently, partnering with auditors, and navigating specialized accounting matters tied to complex funding arrangements.

Responsibilities:

• Direct the month-end close cycle, making sure financial results are completed accurately and delivered within established deadlines.
• Review and approve journal entries while maintaining a reliable and well-organized general ledger.
• Prepare audit schedules, assemble supporting documentation, and serve as a primary contact for external audit requests.
• Manage accounting activities related to New Market Tax Credit structures and help ensure required reporting is completed properly.
• Monitor adherence to accounting guidance, financial policies, and internal control expectations across core processes.
• Provide day-to-day leadership over the accounting function and step in where needed to resolve technical accounting issues.
• Analyze financial data and reconciliations to identify discrepancies, recommend corrections, and improve reporting quality.
• Use Blackbaud and Microsoft Excel to support accounting operations, reporting, and documentation needs. Requirements Requirements
• Prior experience serving as a Controller or in a comparable senior accounting leadership role.
• Strong knowledge of technical accounting principles, financial close procedures, and audit preparation.
• Hands-on experience working in non-profit is required.
• Blackbaud is a plus.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for reconciliations, analysis, and reporting.
• Ability to independently manage the full accounting function in a fast-moving environment.
• Familiarity with New Market Tax Credit accounting or related tax credit financing structures is strongly preferred.
• Understanding of compliance, reporting, and control requirements associated with specialized funding arrangements.
