Job Description

Assistant Controller Location:
New Brunswick, NJ (Hybrid)
Compensation:
$110k-$118k + benefits Overview A mission-driven financial organization focused on community development and impact investing is seeking an Assistant Controller to join its accounting and finance team. This position will play a key role in supporting the organization's accounting operations, financial reporting, and tax compliance across multiple entities and investment structures. The Assistant Controller will work closely with the Controller and senior leadership to ensure accurate financial reporting, maintain strong internal controls, and support the financial management of various affiliated entities and partnerships. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented accounting professional with experience managing complex entity structures and overseeing financial reporting processes. Key Responsibilities Oversee accounting and financial reporting for multiple legal entities, including entities with external investment partners Assist with the preparation of consolidated and non-consolidated financial statements Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes Coordinate and review financial reporting packages for internal and external stakeholders Support preparation and review of tax filings and related compliance requirements Maintain strong internal controls and accounting policies across the organization Assist with annual audits and coordinate with external auditors Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting documentation Support financial analysis and reporting for management and board-level reporting Work cross-functionally with finance, operations, and investment teams on financial reporting needs Additional Responsibilities Assist with system and process improvements within the accounting function Support reporting related to investment funds, partnerships, and affiliated entities Help ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements Participate in special projects and financial initiatives as needed Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field CPA strongly preferred 7+ years of progressive accounting experience Experience working with multi-entity structures, partnerships, or investment-related entities preferred Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements Experience supporting audits and tax filings Advanced Excel and financial reporting skills Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities Preferred Experience Experience within nonprofit, impact investing, community development finance, or financial services organizations Experience working with complex entity structures and partner reporting requirements Work Environment Hybrid work environment based in New Brunswick, New Jersey Collaborative team environment with exposure to senior leadership and strategic financial initiatives Opportunity to contribute to a mission-driven organization focused on economic and community development
