Work Arrangement:
Hybrid (primarily onsite to start) Overview We are seeking a high-potential Assistant Controller to join a real estate investment and property management platform. This role is ideal for a strong accounting professional who is ready to take the next step toward a Controller position. The Assistant Controller will play a key role in supporting all accounting and financial reporting activities across a multi-entity real estate portfolio. This individual will partner closely with senior leadership and gain exposure to strategic initiatives, with the opportunity to grow into the Controller role over time. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong technical accounting skills, a CPA, and the ability to operate in a fast-paced, evolving environment. Core Responsibilities Accounting & Financial Reporting Support day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, A/P, A/R, payroll oversight, bank reconciliations, and cash activity. Assist in the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for corporate and property-level entities. Ensure financials are prepared in accordance with GAAP and company policies. Help drive the monthly close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. Support multi-entity and multi-property accounting, including consolidations and intercompany activity. Analyze property performance, operating results, and cash flow trends. Assist with acquisitions, dispositions, refinances, and onboarding of new assets. Assist with monitoring cash positions across multiple entities and bank accounts. Support cash flow forecasting and liquidity planning. Systems, Controls & Process Improvement Support the development and enhancement of internal controls, policies, and procedures. Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows, automation, and scalability. Participate in system implementations and upgrades. Tax & Compliance Leadership & Collaboration Provide day-to-day guidance and mentorship to accounting staff or third-party providers. Contribute to building a strong, collaborative, and accountable accounting function. Grow into increasing leadership responsibility over time, with a path to Controller. Qualifications & Experience Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA required . Public accounting experience (audit or tax) strongly preferred . 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally with exposure to real estate or property management. Experience working in multi-entity environments with consolidations and intercompany transactions. Experience with property management/accounting systems (e.g., Yardi) preferred. Strong understanding of GAAP, fixed assets, and real estate accounting concepts. Advanced Excel skills and strong systems aptitude. Demonstrated leadership potential with the ability to step into a larger leadership role.
