We are seeking a highly skilled, hands-on Controller to lead and manage all financial functions of a growing consumer goods company operating in a manufactured (outsourced production) environment. This role requires deep expertise in financial operations, ERP systems (especially NetSuite), and multi-state sales tax compliance. The ideal candidate is both strategic and operational—comfortable rolling up their sleeves to execute day-to-day accounting activities while also providing high-level financial leadership and insight. This individual will manage a small team (2-3 team members) and play a critical role in scaling financial processes, ensuring compliance, and supporting business growth.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Leadership & Strategy Serve as a strategic partner to the COO/CFO, CEO and Leadership team on financial planning, growth initiatives, and operational decision-making Develop and execute financial strategies aligned with company objectives Provide actionable insights through financial analysis, forecasting, and KPI tracking Lead budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning processes Accounting & Financial Operations (Hands-On) Oversee and actively participate in daily accounting operations including GL, AP, AR, inventory accounting, and month-end close Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with GAAP Maintain and improve internal controls, policies, and procedures Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes Use financial analysis to determine channel profitability and SKU-level performance Systems & Process Optimization Serve as the internal expert on NetSuite, including configuration, documentation of processes, process optimization and reporting Drive continuous improvement in financial systems, workflows, and automation Ensure strong integration between NetSuite and other operational systems (e.g., inventory, order management, fulfillment) Manufactured Consumer Goods / Supply Chain Finance Oversee cost accounting and inventory management in an outsourced manufacturing environment Monitor COGS, margins, and production costs across contract manufacturers Partner with operations to optimize inventory levels, forecasting, and supply chain efficiency Sales Tax & Compliance Manage multi-state sales tax nexus determination, registration, and ongoing compliance Oversee sales tax filings and reporting across all applicable jurisdictions Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax requirements Coordinate with external tax advisors as needed Team Leadership Manage, mentor, and develop a small finance team (2-3 members) Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement Provide hands-on support and oversight while delegating effectively Cash Flow & Treasury Manage cash flow, liquidity planning, and banking relationships Oversee working capital, including receivables, payables, and inventory Develop and maintain cash forecasts Audit & External Relationships Coordinate audits, reviews, and tax filings with external accountants and advisors Maintain relationships with banks, auditors, and other financial partners

Qualifications & Experience:

Required Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA strongly preferred) 8-12+ years of progressive finance/accounting experience, including senior leadership roles Proven experience as a hands-on Controller or senior finance leader in a consumer goods company Deep expertise with NetSuite (implementation, optimization, and daily use) Strong experience in outsourced manufacturing / contract manufacturing environments Demonstrated experience with multi-state sales tax nexus, registration, and compliance Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements Experience managing small teams and scaling financial operations Advanced proficiency in financial modeling, forecasting, and analysis Preferred Experience in high-growth or entrepreneurial environments Background in e-commerce, wholesale, or omni-channel consumer products Experience with inventory-heavy businesses and cost accounting Key Competencies Hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves mindset Strong analytical and problem-solving skills High attention to detail and accuracy Excellent leadership and communication skills Ability to operate both strategically and tactically Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously Team player with positive nature, good sense of humor, and good stress management skills Process-driven with a focus on efficiency and scalability Self-motivated and comfortable working in a remote environment Work Environment Fully remote role with a distributed team often requiring especially clear and transparent communication Must be comfortable collaborating across time zones and using remote communication tools Occasional travel may be required Why This Role This is an opportunity for a hands-on finance leader to make a meaningful impact in a dynamic consumer goods business.
