Vice President of Growth and Business Development | Hybrid in Chantilly, VA | Pay:
180k - 200k/yr | Permanent Position Job Description The Vice President of Growth and Business Development leads the expansion of a federal financial practice by delivering innovative IT accounting solutions to federal agencies, particularly within the Department of Defense and Department of Homeland Security. This role combines strategic business development, financial management modernization, and technology-enabled transformation, including data management, automation, and artificial intelligence. The position requires a seasoned leader who can shape finance strategy, drive operational improvements, and oversee complex programs in collaboration with project managers and senior stakeholders. Responsibilities Grow the federal financial practice by developing and delivering IT accounting solutions for federal customers, with a focus on agencies such as the Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security. Identify, build, and maintain strategic partnerships and teaming relationships to enhance federal business opportunities and expand the client portfolio. Lead and execute business development activities, including networking with federal stakeholders, responding to federal solicitations, and actively participating in federal industry events. Apply technology to modernize financial management processes and streamline financial and accounting data management within federal organizations. Support modernization and transformation initiatives for federal financial government organizations, including assessing root causes of complex accounting and regulatory issues and developing practical solutions. Analyze and implement programs that leverage machine learning in areas such as information assurance, enterprise risk management, internal controls, and compliance. Develop and propose a roadmap for automation and AI-enabled finance functions, including capabilities such as prompt payment, audit readiness, and other automated financial processes. Assist clients with finance strategy development, operational performance improvement, and process optimization initiatives across finance and accounting functions. Conduct in-depth analysis of finance process areas, including financial analysis, financial close and consolidation, management reporting, and operational finance, with a focus on designing improved processes, technologies, data structures, and organizational models. Perform thorough research, data gathering, and analysis across finance and accounting functional areas to support recommendations and solution design. Execute a structured, methodical approach to problem-solving and deliverable development using recognized technology tools, methodologies, and best practices. Manage programs in coordination with project managers, ensuring that technical and contractual requirements are met and that projects are delivered on time and within scope. Mentor, guide, and coordinate the work of senior managers and team members to ensure high-quality delivery and alignment with strategic goals. Engage in effective negotiation, networking, and stakeholder communication to advance business objectives and maintain strong client relationships. Work effectively under pressure, including during periods that require extended hours, to achieve critical milestones and results. Essential Skills At least 8 years of business development experience in federal contracts, with a focus on the Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security. Demonstrated ability to manage programs in collaboration with project managers, including oversight of technical contracts and delivery teams. Minimum of a master's degree in finance, accounting, or an equivalent relevant field. A recognized professional qualification in accounting or information technology, with a preference for certifications in both areas (such as CPA, CISA, ACCA
) and membership in a recognized professional body. A minimum of 12 years of post-qualification professional experience, with at least 8 years at a managerial level. At least 8 years of experience in planning and implementing information system audits and risk management, or in projects involving information systems and information technology, IT risk and assurance, and system creation and/or implementation related to financial systems, accounting, and automated tools. Experience in information systems and familiarity with data science concepts and practices. Experience with Python or an equivalent programming language used in data analysis, automation, or financial technology solutions. Strong negotiation skills and the ability to coordinate the work of senior managers and cross-functional teams. Excellent networking, interpersonal, and communication skills, both written and verbal. Proven leadership abilities, including the capacity to manage, mentor, and develop others. Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize and deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work under pressure, including during periods that require long hours beyond normal working times, while maintaining a focus on results. Additional Skills & Qualifications Background in financial services and familiarity with leading professional services or consulting environments. Experience working on federal financial management or federal consulting engagements. Demonstrated success in growing a book of business or establishing a new division, practice, or service line. Comfort with applying machine learning, automation, and AI concepts to financial management, information assurance, risk management, and compliance. Experience developing roadmaps for automation and AI-enabled functions such as prompt payment, audit readiness, and other financial operations. Ability to conduct comprehensive research and data analysis across finance and accounting functions to inform strategy and solution design. Flexible and adaptable team player who can operate effectively in hybrid, client-site, and remote environments. Resourceful problem-solver with a structured approach to using technology tools and techniques in delivering client solutions. Interest in discussing performance-based incentives and bonus structures tied to growth and division-building outcomes. Work Environment This role initially follows a hybrid work model based in the Fairfax, Virginia area, with an expectation to work in the office for approximately the first month to onboard, build relationships, and integrate with the leadership team. After this initial period, the position may transition to primarily remote work, with flexibility to adjust based on business needs. Work locations may include a combination of home office, corporate office, and client sites, and some travel with occasional overnight or extended stays (estimated at 10% or less per year) may be required. The work environment is professional and fast-paced, with a strong emphasis on collaboration, innovation, and high-quality client delivery. The role may require working beyond standard business hours during peak periods, proposal deadlines, or critical project milestones.
