Controller

We are seeking an experienced Controller to oversee financial operations for a mission?driven nonprofit organization. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, and effective leadership of the accounting function. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting expertise, proven people management experience, and a hands?on approach to supporting organizational goals. Key Responsibilities Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, month?end close, and financial reporting Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, internal controls, and regulatory requirements Manage budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow analysis Coordinate annual audits and work with external auditors Supervise and mentor an accounting team, providing guidance and performance management Support organizational leadership with financial insights and reporting Implement and improve accounting processes and procedures to enhance efficiency and accuracy Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting (required) Minimum 5 years of nonprofit accounting experience At least 3 years of people management experience Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit financial reporting Experience with budgeting, audits, and financial analysis Proven ability to manage deadlines, prioritize work, and lead a team effectively Excellent communication and organizational skills Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco/Highspring depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual's skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs.
