Department NSU-Finance & Administration Physical Location of Position (City) Aberdeen Posting Text The Controller is a senior member of the Finance and Administration team, reporting directly to the Vice President for Finance & Administration. This position is responsible for managing the university's accounting operations, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations, and providing accurate financial reporting to support strategic decisionmaking. Key Responsibilities- Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial reporting.
- Prepare timely and accurate financial statements in accordance with GAAP and Board of Regents policies.
- Coordinate annual audits and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, South Dakota Board of Regents, and institutional regulations.
- Develop and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard university assets.
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations to senior leadership.
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff, promoting professional development and efficiency.
- Collaborate with campus departments to support budgeting and forecasting processes. Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master's degree or CPA preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory responsibilities.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, fund accounting, and financial reporting standards.
- Experience in higher education or nonprofit sector preferred.
