Department SDSU-Accounting Office-Controller Physical Location of Position (City) Brookings Posting Text South Dakota State University (SDSU) is seeking a detail‑oriented and forward‑thinking Assistant Controller to join our finance team. This role plays a key part in supporting our financial reporting, compliance, and internal control functions while ensuring operational continuity and effective oversight of day‑to‑day accounting activities. This position is located in Brookings, SD . This position is a 12-month, full-time, benefits-eligible position. The Accounting Department at SDSU is a highly efficient and dedicated team responsible for a wide range of critical financial activities. The department ensures that daily financial transactions are accurately recorded and oversees property management as well as compiling comprehensive financial statements and fulfilling other reporting requirements The Assistant Controller position is open to internal candidates only. Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Sponsorship is not available for this position.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Support accurate and timely financial reporting and monitoring of university financial activity Support consistent and accurate accounting practices across campus through procedures, training and operational guidance. Oversee daily accounting operations to support accuracy, compliance, and consistency across the university. Provide supervision and coordination of accounting staff to support efficient and accurate financial operations.BENEFITS

MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field 5 or more years of related experience One or more years of supervisory or leadership experience Experience with financial software packages and knowledge of accounting systems. Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills Ability to work collaboratively and manage multiple priorities Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles Effective verbal and written communication skills.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
CPA or a Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field Two years of successful experience with budget/finance/accounting in higher education. Demonstrated ability to prioritize workload to ensure deadlines are met. Experience with Customer Care/Customer Service.APPLICATION PROCESS
