CEO Who We Are Black Kanyon is a Midwest-based private equity holding company that acquires real estate and founder-led businesses for the long haul. We focus on long-term value, big goals, and building teams that handle hard things with resilience, ownership, and character under pressure. We are scaling toward $1B in assets under management — and the people we bring in now will shape how we get there. The Role This is not a traditional CFO role. This is a capital-driven, decision-making, execution-focused leadership position that sits at the intersection of capital raising, deal structuring, financial performance, and portfolio strategy. You will own how capital flows into and through Black Kanyon — and you will ensure every deal gets across the finish line. If you think like an owner and investor — not just an analyst — and you operate with urgency, confidence, and a bias toward action, this role was built for you. What You'll Do Capital Raising and Investor Relations Raise equity capital from investors and partners — build trust, alignment, and excitement with capital partners Be comfortable directly asking for capital and driving commitments Build and maintain long-term investor relationships through clear, simple, and confident communication Lender and Banking Relationships Own all relationships with banks, lenders, and credit partners Source and negotiate debt for acquisitions — continuously improve access to capital, speed, and financing terms Maintain proactive, consistent communication and build long-term trust with capital providers Capital Stack Strategy and Allocation Structure debt and equity for each deal — balance risk, flexibility, and return Think creatively about financing structures, not just traditional options Own and track Return on Equity (ROE) across the portfolio and guide where capital should be deployed Evaluate trade-offs between competing opportunities and ensure capital is being used in the highest and best way Financial Leadership and Portfolio Performance Maintain a strong understanding of financial performance across all portfolio companies Monitor and improve key financial metrics including Global DSCR, cash flow, liquidity, profitability, and margins Identify financial risks early and provide clear recommendations to leadership Translate complex financial information into plain English — focus on decisions, not spreadsheets Deal Execution Own every deal from signed purchase agreement through closing Drive urgency, accountability, and timelines across all parties — legal, finance, lenders, sellers, brokers, and third parties Ensure deals close on time and without unnecessary delays — take full ownership of getting deals across the finish line Acquisition Analysis and Team Leadership Work alongside leadership during deal sourcing and evaluation — provide clear go/no-go recommendations Pressure test assumptions and underwriting Lead and manage the internal finance and legal coordination team with strong execution and accountability What We're Looking For Must-Haves Proven experience in capital raising (debt and equity) and closing complex financial transactions Strong track record of building and maintaining relationships with investors, lenders, and banking partners Experience structuring deals and managing capital allocation across multiple businesses or a portfolio Deep financial acumen — you understand DSCR, cash flow, ROE, and profitability metrics without drowning in spreadsheets Ability to drive deals from contract to close without leadership stepping in Experience managing and leading a small finance/coordination team Nice-to-Haves Background in private equity, investment banking, or corporate development Experience scaling a business or portfolio toward a major AUM milestone Familiarity with acquisition due diligence and deal structuring in the lower-middle market You'll Thrive Here If You Run toward the hard stuff instead of away from it — you've got grit and you don't quit when things get uncomfortable Operate with humble confidence — you know your strengths, own your gaps, and don't need to be the loudest person in the room to make an impact Bring energy and a positive mindset — you focus on solutions, not excuses, and you make the people around you better Why Black Kanyon You will directly shape the trajectory of a growing private equity platform with a clear path to $1B in AUM You will work alongside a founder-CEO who values clarity, speed, and ownership — no bureaucracy, no politics Culture is not a slogan here — we hire, evaluate, and develop people based on Grit, Humble Confidence, Positivity, and Hunger This is a seat at the leadership table with real decision-making authority and impact Our Core Values Grit — You find a way when others see a dead end. You embrace hard things and don't give up. Humbly Confident — You give honest feedback, operate without ego, and know your stuff. Positive — You bring energy, stay solution-oriented, and make the best of everything. Hungry — You pursue exceptionalism, walk with purpose, and choose discipline over comfort. Ready to Apply? If this sounds like you — and you're ready to help build something that matters — we want to hear from you.
