Today Job Description We are a small closely held company located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, looking for a full-time controller with a good accounting background. CPA experience is preferred but not required. We are an engineering design-build firm with a staff of 25-30, mostly engineers and drafters. We work in the bioenergy sector doing engineering, procurement, and construction. Experience in construction accounting is preferred. Duties include compliance with multi-state taxing authorities. We work mostly in the Midwestern states, but all have their own rules for contractors. Experience preparing monthly in-house financials and job costing required. Payroll experience preferred. Daily duties include reconciling and coding user credit card charges, entering vendor invoices, and invoicing customers. You will be the main point of contact and responsible for filing employment taxes, sales and use tax reports, and maintaining our business registration in various work states. You will also be required to research various tax and compliance questions, as needed. You will prepare a yearly budget and a monthly actual to budget comparative for management to review. You will be required to run ad hoc job cost reports and help evaluate key performance indicators. In addition, you will be asked to help with IT infrastructure, vehicle maintenance, office maintenance, and various HR related duties. You will have fiduciary responsibility over the company 401(k) plan and employment related accounts. This is a Full-time in-office salaried (Exempt) position.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Process payroll appropriately and on time.
  • Stay up-to-date and process payroll tax information appropriately.
  • Provide job cost analysis and details for projects.
  • Train other team members on accounting procedures and processes.
  • Run monthly financial reports as required.
  • Maintain financial information for reporting to 3rd party accountants.
  • Share financial information appropriately.
  • Provide customer point of contact support when necessary.
  • Manage and oversee year-end financial statement review and tax reporting.
  • Help with understanding the compliance requirements for tax credits.
  • Provide backup and support to purchasing and project management.
  • Seek improvements and offer insight into HR, Office Management, and accounting systems.
  • Seek cost savings on NBB budgeted and recurring costs.
  • Lead the Deltek/Computer Ease (Accounting Software) support efforts and be a resource for other team members.
  • Manage computer hardware purchases and software renewals.
  • Coordinate managed IT services w/3rd Party IT.
  • Manage the annual insurance renewal and audit process.
  • Help with contractor bonds, and information requests from the underwriters.
  • Manage employee requests and make sure employee benefits and records are up to date.
  • Help with IT infrastructure, vehicle maintenance, office maintenance, and various HR related functions.
Job Requirements CPA experience is preferred but not required. Experience in construction accounting is preferred. Experience preparing monthly in-house financials and job costing required. Payroll Experience preferred.
