Job Description

Lawler-Wood, LLC is a real estate development, brokerage, property and facility management firm operating for over 50 years. The corporate office is in Knoxville, Tennessee. Managed locations include facilities in several counties adjacent to Knox County and one in Amarillo, Texas.
  • Provides development services to clients for commercial, office building, government complexes, recreational projects
  • managing the construction and the development for the client from beginning to completion
  • Provides property management services for residential and commercial rental properties
  • Provides facility management services for commercial, municipal and federal government facilities Controller Position Overview The Controller position is a full-time in person position located at the corporate office.
The Controller is a senior management role which oversees the financial operations of Lawler-Wood and approximately 20 managed entities. The Controller reports directly to the CEO. The Controller's responsibilities include analyzing financial data, creating and consulting in budget preparations, and providing accurate financial reports to other senior management, government clients and banking relations. Duties and Responsibilities
  • Financial and cash management
  • Coordinate development projects construction loan draws, vendor payments, loan payments
  • Assist owners, development personnel and property manager with new projects, creating budgets and proformas
  • Oversee accounting functions
  • financial controls, general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, weekly payroll review
  • Manage accounting department personnel, provide annual performance reviews
  • Ensure accurate and timely monthly and annual financial reporting for other senior management, clients, audits and tax returns
  • Coordinate audits with outside accountant
  • review draft and final financial statements
  • Coordinate federal and state tax preparation with outside accountants
  • review tax returns
  • File quarterly state tax estimated payments, annual business and personal property tax returns
  • Participate in business insurance renewals, applications, policy year end audit/compliance
  • Participate in employee health insurance renewal process with Human Resources Director
  • Participate in annual reviews of retirement plans with plan administrator
  • Manage banking relationships
  • open/close bank accounts as needed
  • communicate with Bond Trustees and follow protocols required by Bond Indentures
  • Register new entities for federal and state taxes
  • Renew annual federal government registrations as required for various facility management government contracts Qualifications and Skills Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • Active CPA license required
  • 10+ years accounting experience, including senior leadership roles, tax experience a plus
  • Strong financial reporting knowledge
  • Ability to juggle multiple duties and prioritize duties
  • Strong people management skills and proven leadership
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
