The Vice President of Finance and Accounting reports directly to the President/CEO and is responsible for strategic leadership, operational management, and oversight of the organization's Finance, Billing, and Purchasing departments. This role ensures the organization's financial integrity through effective financial planning, accounting operations, budgeting, reporting, internal controls, purchasing oversight, and revenue cycle management. The Vice President of Finance and Accounting partners closely with executive leadership to support organizational goals, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and long-term financial sustainability. Key Responsibilities:
Financial Leadership & Strategy Provide strategic financial leadership and guidance to executive management. Develop and oversee annual operating and capital budgets. Lead financial forecasting, cash flow management, and long-range financial planning. Oversee the preparation of annual budgets, ensuring coordination with departments. Oversee preparation of quarterly and multi-year projections based on spending trends and departmental and operational needs. Analyze financial performance and provide recommendations to improve profitability and operational efficiency. Envision and create financial models that help anticipate and plan for future contingencies. Communicate with VP Strategic Development to understand projected revenue. Prepare and present financial reports, dashboards, and analyses to senior leadership. Develop and maintain strong internal controls and financial policies. Establish and maintain relationships with financial institutions that provide operational banking services. Ensure that all accounting and financial reporting practices comply with applicable regulatory and third-party requirements. Accounting Operations Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll approvals, fixed assets, and financial reporting. Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes and financial statements. Coordinate annual audits and serve as primary liaison with external auditors, tax advisors, and financial institutions. Ensure compliance with GAAP, federal and state regulations, and organizational policies. Monitor and improve accounting systems, workflows, and procedures. Billing & Revenue Cycle Oversight Direct billing operations employees to ensure timely and accurate invoices, collections, and payment posting. Monitor accounts receivable aging and implement strategies to improve cash collections and reduce outstanding balances. Ensure compliance with payer requirements, contractual obligations, and applicable regulations. Collaborate with operational leaders to resolve billing issues and improve revenue cycle performance. Oversee reimbursement and cost reporting activities, ensuring accurate reporting and compliance with applicable federal, state, and payer regulations. Monitor regulatory and legislative developments impacting tax and reimbursement and ensure appropriate organizational response. Purchasing & Procurement Oversight Oversee purchasing and procurement functions and employees to ensure cost-effective acquisition of goods and services. Develop and maintain vendor relationships and contract oversight processes. Monitor inventory purchasing trends and identify cost-saving opportunities. Manage vendor and procurement contracts for lab reagents, hardware, and software services. Ensure purchasing practices comply with organizational policies and budgetary requirements. Leadership & Team Management Lead, mentor, and develop Finance, Billing, and Purchasing staff. Establish departmental goals, performance expectations, and accountability measures. Promote collaboration, customer service, and continuous process improvement across departments. Qualifications:
Master's degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required. Minimum of 5 years of holding CPA or another advanced financial certification preferred. Minimum of 7 years' experience in finance/accounting; experience in a healthcare or laboratory environment is a plus. Proficiency with Sage 100 is preferred. 3rd party insurance/client billing is a plus. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (specifically Excel) is required. Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, internal controls, and regulatory compliance. Excellent leadership, communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills. This position operates primarily in a professional office environment and may require occasional extended hours during budgeting, audits, or special projects. Work in well-lighted and ventilated work areas. Slight potential for exposure to infectious materials and chemicals.
