The Controller will report directly to ownership and work cross-functionally with operations, field leadership, and external advisors.
Key ResponsibilitiesAccounting & Financial Reporting Own all aspects of accounting across three entities, including the full month-end close, financial statement preparation, and intercompany accounting and eliminations. Deliver timely, accurate financial reporting to ownership with meaningful commentary on results, trends, and variances. Maintain the general ledger, chart of accounts, and accounting policies consistently across entities. Job Costing, Inventory & Operational Accounting Drive labor COGS analysis and job costing support, partnering with operations to ensure accurate cost capture and margin visibility on every job. Oversee inventory controls, cycle counts, and reconciliations across locations. Administer the vehicle and equipment fleet from an accounting and compliance standpoint, including titles, registrations, depreciation, and disposals. Treasury & Banking Manage banking relationships, cash management, and the financial partnership with lenders. Forecast cash flow across entities and ensure adequate liquidity for operations, payroll, and capital needs. Strategy & Business Ownership Act as a thought partner to ownership on pricing, capital allocation, hiring, and growth decisions. Build and maintain budgets, forecasts, and KPI dashboards by entity, division, and job type. Drive process improvement and operational accountability across departments, not just within accounting. Payroll, Tax & Compliance Oversee payroll processing and payroll tax compliance, including W-2s, 1099s, and multi-state filings as applicable. Coordinate with external CPAs on income tax filings, sales/use tax, and other regulatory matters. Manage legal and regulatory compliance oversight across the entities, including licensing and entity filings. Insurance & Risk Management Lead annual insurance audits and serve as the primary point of contact for carriers and brokers.
Own the risk management function:
claims tracking, COI management, certificate compliance for subs and vendors, and internal controls. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA strongly preferred. 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years in a Controller or senior accounting leadership role. Industry experience in home services, construction, trades, or other field-services business with job costing required. Multi-entity accounting experience with hands-on ownership of intercompany activity. Working knowledge of payroll tax, sales/use tax, insurance audits, and standard contractor compliance requirements. Proficiency with QuickBooks and Salesforce, plus advanced Excel.
