This role sits at the financial center of one of the nation's most ambitious housing platforms where accounting decisions shape real buildings, real neighborhoods, and real opportunity for families across the state. You will work alongside a small, sharp team that values ownership over hierarchy. It is an unusually broad seat focusing on foundation accounting, nonprofit operations, and real estate development in a single role. About Ivory Innovations Ivory Innovations is a nonprofit focused on catalyzing solutions to America's housing affordability crisis. We support entrepreneurs, researchers, and policy leaders pushing the boundaries of what is possible in housing — through funding, national recognition, and strategic collaboration. We also develop 200-400 units of housing each year and manage our own multifamily portfolio with over 700 homes. Our mission blends financial stewardship with social impact, and we want a Controller who shares that vision. About the Clark and Christine Ivory Foundation Founded in 2003 by Clark and Christine Ivory, the Foundation was created to give back to the community that made the Ivory family's work possible. Its mission centers on education, literacy, and affordable housing. Over the past two decades it has grown into one of the largest private endowments in the state of Utah. The Controller will play a central role in stewarding the accounting and reporting for this institution: a portfolio that funds scholarships, literacy initiatives, and housing solutions impacting tens of thousands of Utahns each year. Why this role is different Breadth of scope. You will own the accounting function across a foundation, a nonprofit, and an active real estate portfolio — exposure that is hard to assemble anywhere else. Direct access. You will work closely with the CFO and senior leadership on capital decisions, audits, and strategy. Real mission, real outcomes. Your work supports affordable housing, literacy, and education programs that touch communities across Utah. The general ledger has a purpose here. Room to build. We are scaling our systems, our portfolio, and our impact. You will help shape how a growing finance function works — not inherit a frozen one. What you'll do Lead all general accounting functions — GL, AP/AR, payroll, and month-end close — across multiple entities. Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for leadership, the board, and external partners. Own the annual budgeting process and monitor budget-to-actual performance with insight, not just variance. Ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and applicable tax and reporting regulations. Lead preparation for annual audits and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors. Track restricted funds, grants, and programmatic budgets in close partnership with program and development teams. Maintain and improve accounting systems with an eye toward efficiency and accuracy. Provide hands-on support for special projects, financial modeling, and operational improvements. Supervise and develop the accounts payable team. Who you are Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or MAcc preferred. Meaningful accounting and finance experience, ideally with nonprofit or real estate exposure. Strong command of GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards. Experience with Microsoft Dynamics NAV or a similar ERP is a strong plus. Comfortable in Excel and modern reporting tools, and genuinely tech-savvy — you look for ways to automate, not just reconcile. High integrity, strong ownership instincts, and a sharp eye for detail. Clear communicator who can translate financial detail for non-finance teammates. Energized by a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment where titles matter less than the work. What we offer Mission-driven work with tangible impact on affordable housing, education, and literacy. Competitive salary based on experience. Generous benefits — medical, dental, retirement contributions, and PTO. A small, high-trust team and direct exposure to senior leadership and the Foundation's board. A career platform unusual in scope: foundation accounting, nonprofit operations, and real estate finance, all in one role.
