In this pivotal role, you will oversee the day-to-day accounting operations, ensure compliance with regulatory standards, and support the preparation of accurate financial statements. Your expertise will drive financial integrity and operational efficiency across our organization. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a mission-driven environment where your skills in corporate, non-profit, and governmental accounting will make a meaningful impact. You will collaborate closely with senior management to develop financial strategies, mentor junior staff, and uphold the highest standards of financial reporting. Responsibilities Manage the preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and regulatory requirements. Oversee general ledger accounting, account reconciliation, and month-end closing processes using accounting software such as PeopleSoft, Sage, Xero, or QuickBooks. Ensure compliance with SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) controls and assist with internal and external audits, including securities law adherence and regulatory reporting. Supervise accounts payable and receivable functions, including bank reconciliations, cash flow analysis, and journal entries. Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis activities to inform strategic decision-making. Mentor and develop accounting staff by providing guidance on technical accounting issues such as accrual accounting, double entry bookkeeping, and financial concepts. Collaborate on special projects related to LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit), Wills, Trusts & Estate Law, or other complex financial transactions requiring detailed financial report writing and interpretation. Skills Extensive knowledge of
GAAP, SOX
compliance, and regulatory standards applicable to non-profit or governmental organizations. Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, PeopleSoft or similar platforms; strong skills in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting. Deep understanding of financial concepts including balance sheet reconciliation, account analysis, journal entries, debits & credits, and accrual accounting. Experience with financial statement preparation, financial report writing, and interpretation of complex financial data. Strong analytical skills in cash flow analysis, bank reconciliation, account reconciliation and general ledger management. Knowledge of securities law compliance and public accounting practices is a plus. Ability to mentor team members effectively while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
