POSITION SUMMARY
Financial Aid Advisor ensure all financial aid paperwork is completely explained and filled out correctly and completely by potential and existing students. In addition, they make certain all needed documentation is in each student's personal file and up to date.
DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS
Directs the financial aid duties in the following ways: Assists students with completing application materials for federal and state aid programs and scholarship opportunities. Maintains and verifies the accuracy of information provided on applications for federal and/or state aid programs. Reviews all documents, including the FAFSA, tax returns, etc., necessary to determine a student's eligibility for aid and verify student applications Packages aid to students according to federal and state guidelines Certifies enrollment for Veterans' Benefits eligibility. VA ONCE Assist with the
CAL GRANT
program. Updates the receipt of required paperwork into the RGM student records system. Schedules and assists with F.A. appointments and make sure all paperwork is ready or all necessary documents are available when student arrives to set appointment Advises students and parents on Financial Aid Delegates appointments and/or estimates as needed according to appointment volume Monitors the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS), Common Origination Disbursement (COD) to determine if a student is in overpayment of a federal grant or loan or is in default on any federal student loans. Responsible for overseeing assigned programs, such as Federal Pell Grant and/or Federal Student Loans and Private loans. Responsible for monitoring the awarding of a financial aid package that conforms to all Title IV regulations as well as State and School's Policy. Responsible in monitoring current active files and ensuring all FAFSA renewals are done and completed in a timely manner ( as needed ). Responsible in reviewing/auditing files and maintain accurate information in the student's records. Responsible in monitoring and processing any drops/withdrawals/cancels students. Complete all necessary paperwork. Notify Registrars, FA and program directors of potential drops/cancels. Request refunds ( if applicable ), ensure all refunds are paid and processed in a timely manner . Follow up with
NSLDS/COD
for confirmation of processed refunds. Notify and document all communication with student until all necessary paperwork has been completed. Responsible for filing all financial aid documents in student files. Be able to assist in all other duties/areas within the financial aid department as needed . Assist in maintaining and organizing Graduated/Active/Drop student files . Assist in processing student request of Leave of Absences. Maintain spreadsheets, ensure all program directors are notified, and update
NSLDS/VA
systems for accuracy. All other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Ability to counsel/explain potential students about the particulars of each program, the enrollment process in general and explain clearly all aspects of the financial aid programs. Ability to maintain a positive approach under pressure. Excellent oral and written communication skills Professional demeanor and maturity. Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment. Excellent organizational skills. Knowledge of personal computer functions.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree preferred. Two year of experience as a financial aid, educational counseling or student accounts at an educational institute preferred. Ability to successfully meet the public, to create a favorable impression, and to establish and maintain effective working relations with other employees. Considerable knowledge of System policies relating to Financial Aid. Considerable knowledge of financial aid programs. Ability to supervise and delegate responsibilities to others. Must have good communication skills and the ability to complete tasks quickly and efficiently.
