Job Description

Job Description Montgomery College, Rockville Campus has an immediate need for a full-time Financial Aid Assistant in the Financial Aid Department. The work schedule is 40 hours a week, Monday, Wednesday
  • Friday, 8:30 a.m.
  • 5:00 p.m., and Tuesday, 10:00 a.m.
  • 6:30 p.
m. This is a Non-Bargaining, Non-Exempt, grade 21 position. For non-exempt positions, you are not eligible to work a secondary job at Montgomery College. This eligibility is subject to change based on the needs of the unit. The Financial Aid Assistant works under direct supervision of the Campus Student Financial Aid Director. The incumbent is the first point of contact for students and their family representatives through in-person, phone or email conversations, while providing excellent customer service. The work is performed in accordance with established rules, regulations, procedures, and precedents; unusual and nonstandard matters are referred when appropriate. Decisions require judgment regarding what actions to take based on available information and within established guidelines in order to maintain accuracy and dependability while interacting with the public and performing office duties. Contacts are with college faculty, staff, current and prospective students and family representatives, and external entities especially with regards to supporting students and office functions. Duties may include but are not limited to: Provide general financial aid information to prospective and current students regarding eligibility, policies and procedures; explain provisions of programs; and assist students in preparing applications. Receive and check applications and related documents for accuracy and completeness and notify applicants if additional information is needed. Assist in processing student financial aid applications and awards. Confirm students' status by checking documents and verify applicant's data with outside agencies. Enter applicant data into database, and create applicant file and maintain records. Assist in preparation of reports. Assist students with understanding academic progress for continued eligibility. Ordering supplies and maintenance of office equipment. May participate in financial aid outreach activities. May supervise student workers.
Required Qualifications:
High School diploma or G.E.D, and one year of experience in student financial aid or equivalent combination of education, training, certification and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the job. Customer service experience with a thorough knowledge of customer service techniques. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Excellent attention to detail. Basic knowledge of current Student Financial Aid Office policies and procedures, federal financial aid regulations and policies, state grant and loan programs and regulations, and institutional policies governing financial aid. Ability to set priorities and handle multiple tasks in a demanding office environment. Skilled in use of business English, spelling, grammar and conventional styles and formats used in office communications. The equivalent combination of education, training, certification and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
Two years previous experience in a high-demand, front facing customer service position.
Hiring Range:
$23.70
  • $30.
93 per hour. Initial salary placement for new hires falls between the minimum and midpoint of the range and is based on relevant candidate experience and internal equity. The maximum salary for this position is $38.06 per hour. .
