#5071• The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The NYPD strives to foster a safe and fair city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between the people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation. The Identification Unit is a sub-unit of the Central Records Section and operates on a 24-hour, 7 days a week schedule. It serves as the repository of New York City fingerprints, palm prints, and criminal history information. The daily operations of the unit include processing arrest fingerprints and non-criminal fingerprints. DOA prints are uploaded directly from the Medical Examiner's office. The staff processes subpoenas, court orders, and criminal history checks for various law enforcement agencies. The unit maintains the online database for Orders of Protection; processes sealed arrests and expunges fingerprints. The unit operates in an exceptional work environment with a professional corporate like setting. Under supervision, the Fingerprint Technician Trainee receives training in and assists in performing the following or related tasks: Taking fingerprints of persons arrested or convicted of criminal offenses; City employees; candidates for employment or promotion; and persons applying for licensure. Duties will include classifying fingerprints in accordance with established methods and procedures; searching fingerprint files for the purpose of comparing fingerprints with any prior impressions on records and to disclose criminal records or cases of substitution or impersonation; inputting and/ or accessing information from computer database systems; assisting other law enforcement personnel in obtaining information regarding criminal histories, arrest reports and other related information; maintaining fingerprinting files and records of pertinent identification data; and making regular reports on fingerprints taken, on police records of persons fingerprinted, and on cases of substitution or impersonation.Work Location:
