Job Description
Fire Communications Dispatcher North County Dispatch
Receives 9-1-1 emergency and non emergency requests for fire protection, medical aid, or patrol related services.
Obtains necessary and relevant information from a reporting party and inputs same into the CAD system for processing of the call.
Evaluates and prioritizes calls for services and dispatches appropriate personnel and equipment.
Using a computer aided dispatch (CAD) system, monitors and updates fire, ambulance, and patrol unit location and status in order to coordinate emergency field operations.
Using the RCS 800 Mhz radio system, monitors several fire command and patrol channels, transmits vital response and scene information to field units, and processes field requests for resources or information.
Maintains and updates reference books and CAD logs in the Communications Center and performs other clerical duties as assigned.
Mental function: Includes reading, writing, operating a computer keyboard, problem solving, handling multiple tasks simultaneously, calmly handling requests for assistance from distraught/upset citizens, and decision making under stressful conditions.
