budget adoption and will be effective July 2026•CLASS CHARACTERISTICSEmployees in this class work under general supervision and, within a framework of established procedures, are expected to perform duties which involve receiving incoming emergency and non-emergency calls for fire and medical assistance and dispatching necessary units using a computer aided dispatch (CAD) system and 800 Mhz radio system.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES ESSENTIAL JOB

FUNCTIONSThe following are duties considered essential for this job classification.

Receives 9-1-1 emergency and non emergency requests for fire protection, medical aid, or patrol related services.

Obtains necessary and relevant information from a reporting party and inputs same into the CAD system for processing of the call.

Evaluates and prioritizes calls for services and dispatches appropriate personnel and equipment.

Using a computer aided dispatch (CAD) system, monitors and updates fire, ambulance, and patrol unit location and status in order to coordinate emergency field operations.

Using the RCS 800 Mhz radio system, monitors several fire command and patrol channels, transmits vital response and scene information to field units, and processes field requests for resources or information.

Maintains and updates reference books and CAD logs in the Communications Center and performs other clerical duties as assigned.

Incumbents must perform work in an efficient, effective, and timely manner with minimal direction.

Mobility:

Incumbents require sufficient mobility to work in an office setting and operate office equipment. Incumbents must be able to remain seated and working at a computer terminal for prolonged periods of time.

Vision:

Vision sufficient with or without correction to read small print, computer screens, and printed documents, and to operate assigned equipment.

Hearing:

Incumbents are required to hear in normal audio range with or without correction.

Environment:

Work is performed in a controlled office environment.
