Full Job Description Position Summary:
The Career Firefighter is responsible for protecting life and property by responding to fire, rescue, and emergency medical incidents. This position requires individuals to perform physically demanding and hazardous tasks under emergency conditions. Firefighters must demonstrate sound judgment, teamwork, and commitment to public service, while maintaining their overall health and wellbeing; maintaining equipment; and participating in training activities.
Work Schedule:
This employee generally works 24-hour shifts every third day totaling an average of 53 hours per week. Essential Functions of the
Position:
Respond to fire alarms, medical emergencies, hazardous materials incidents, motor vehicle accidents, rescues, and other emergency calls. Provide Basic Life Support (BLS) and/or Advanced Life Support (ALS) services in accordance with Ohio EMS protocols and certifications held. Suppress and extinguish fires using proper firefighting techniques. Rescue occupants from burning buildings, vehicles, or other emergency situations. Maintain physical strength and agility including the abilities to stand, sit, walk, climb, balance, bend, crouch, kneel, reach at all levels, possess good hand-eye coordination, and frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Maintain firefighting and EMS equipment, vehicles, and facilities. Operate fire apparatus and emergency vehicles; drive safely under emergency conditions and all weather and traffic conditions. Work well with co-workers and the public. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Participate in fire prevention, public education, and public safety programs. Attend and complete training and Continuing Education as required by the department and the Ohio Department of Public Safety. Complete detailed and accurate incident, medical, and other reports as required. Assist in inspections, hydrant testing, station duties, and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Ohio Firefighter II Certification Ohio Paramedic Certification Valid Ohio driver's license Successful completion of background check, physical, and drug screening, and CPAT or Firefighter Mile testing
Working Conditions:
Physically demanding and potentially dangerous environment. Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus use required. Extreme temperatures, confined spaces, and stressful situations. Shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays. May be required to remain on-call or respond during off-duty hours.

The Beavercreek Township Fire Department protects more than a 50 square mile area of Greene County. Five fully-staffed Fire Stations provide emergency medical and fire services within Beavercreek 24 hours a day. They provide fire suppression, emergency medical services (EMS), and fire prevention services to the residents of Beavercreek Township, including the City of Beavercreek. Each fire station has a fire engine and a medical unit available to respond to emergencies. Service credit is available to firefighters who currently work full-time elsewhere with verification of continuous years of full-time service.
