Job Description

Turnstone is seeking a high energy, motivated, and organized Fitness Aide that will provide support and assistance to our Fitness Specialist. The part-time fitness aide will be a valuable team member, providing support to the department by helping fitness staff with client services, transfers, equipment, safety, cleaning, and opening and closing duties. Turnstone's Fitness and Aquatic program provides the only exercise facility in northeast Indiana specifically designed to include people with physical disabilities. Because of Turnstone's mission to empower people with disabilities, the Fitness and Aquatic program provides specialized attention to help people live more active, healthy lives and achieve milestones that are important to them. Turnstone's Fitness and Aquatic program also provides guidance for adaptive sports athletes training to pursue competitive opportunities.
Responsibilities:
Provide assistance/supervision on the fitness floor as needed to ensure safety Assist set-up on exercise equipment Assist with exercise program implementation Effectively communicate with clients, families, staff, volunteers, and community resources Must possess adequate strength and endurance necessary to assist clients with transfers, ambulation, and other functional mobility activities Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds Complete other duties as assigned Position requirements: Currently enrolled or pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in the areas of exercise science, health education, adaptive physical education, exercise physiology or related field. Current and maintained certification in CPR and First Aid Flexible schedule which includes weekends and evenings
Preferred:
The preferred candidate will have completed upper level course work and completed observation time or internship in Exercise Science. 1 year of experience working with people with disabilities in adaptive fitness or group exercise classes preferred.
