SUMMARY The Carrier Representative is responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with transportation providers to ensure timely, cost-effective, and reliable freight solutions. This role involves negotiating rates, securing carrier capacity, and coordinating shipments to meet customer requirements. Success in this position requires excellent communication, problem-solving skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume logistics environment. The intent of this role is to deliver exceptional service while optimizing operational efficiency, operating proactively and with attention to detail.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Build and maintain strong relationships with carriers to ensure consistent capacity and service quality. Act as the primary point of contact for carrier inquiries, service issues, and performance feedback. Develop strategies to expand carrier network and improve carrier loyalty. Negotiate competitive rates with carriers while maintaining profitability and service standards. Secure carrier capacity for transactional and spot market loads. Monitor market trends and adjust buy strategies accordingly. Assign loads to carriers and provide detailed route and delivery instructions. Ensure carriers have all necessary documentation and compliance requirements. Perform real-time track and trace to monitor shipment progress and proactively address delays. Respond promptly to carrier and shipment-related issues, including delays, equipment failures, and compliance concerns. Manage the carrier onboarding process. Utilize TMS and other tools to manage workload, update shipment statuses, and maintain accurate records. Analyze carrier performance metrics and provide recommendations for improvement. Work closely with internal teams (Customer Service, Account Management, Accounting) to ensure seamless operations. Communicate proactively with carriers and customers regarding shipment status and any changes.

Education & Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent degree required; Bachelor's Degree preferred. 2-3 years of experience in transportation brokerage desired. 1-2 years of experience in sales or account management is preferred but not required.

Strong verbal and written communication skills. Proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships. Demonstrated excellence in customer service and client support. Skilled in prioritizing, organizing, and managing multiple tasks while meeting deadlines. Capable of identifying complex problems, analyzing relevant information, and implementing effective solutions. Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy in task execution. Proficient in gathering, interpreting, and utilizing data to support operational activities. Effective team player with the ability to collaborate across departments. Experienced in preparing clear and concise documentation, including reports, procedures, correspondence, and other written materials.
