As a Fleet & Equipment Mechanic, you will play a vital role in ensuring that company vehicles, trailers, and a wide range of equipment are maintained in top condition. This hands-on position is essential to minimizing downtime, supporting field crews, and upholding high standards of safety and reliability. Responsibilities Diagnose, repair, and maintain a variety of equipment including mowers, wheel loaders, excavators, skid steers, blowers, chainsaws, string trimmers, hedge trimmers, aerators, spreaders, semis, and other landscape equipment. Perform repairs and maintenance on company trucks, trailers, utility vehicles, snow equipment, plows, salt spreaders, and related attachments. Troubleshoot issues with gasoline, diesel, 2-cycle, hydraulic, electrical, fuel, ignition, belt, pulley, tire, brake, and mechanical systems. Respond to emergency repairs and support field breakdowns to keep crews productive. Conduct scheduled preventative maintenance such as oil changes, filter replacements, tune-ups, greasing, belt replacements, blade sharpening, tire checks, battery service, and safety inspections. Prepare equipment for seasonal use, including spring startup, mowing season readiness, fall shutdown, and snow season preparation. Identify recurring equipment issues and recommend repair, replacement, or process improvements. Maintain an organized, clean, and safe shop environment and track inventory of parts, fluids, blades, belts, filters, tires, hardware, and tools. Communicate part needs and repair priorities to management and coordinate with outside vendors for specialized repairs. Complete work orders, repair logs, service records, inspection forms, and parts usage documentation accurately. Communicate equipment status, estimated repair timelines, and safety issues to management and operations staff. Inspect equipment for safe operating condition before returning it to service and ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, manufacturer, and company safety standards. Report unsafe equipment, damaged tools, or recurring operator issues to management. Qualifications 4+ years of mechanical repair experience preferred. Experience repairing landscape equipment, small engines, fleet vehicles, trailers, or construction equipment preferred. Strong knowledge of small engines, 2-cycle equipment, gasoline engines, diesel engines, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, and general mechanical repair. Ability to diagnose problems and complete repairs with minimal supervision. Ability to read manuals, look up parts, follow repair procedures, and document completed work. Welding or fabrication experience. Valid drivers license. Dependable, organized, safety-focused, and able to communicate clearly with managers and crew leaders. CDL Class A or B preferred but not required. Experience with snowplows, salt spreaders, skid steers, loaders, and snow management equipment preferred. ASE, small engine, diesel, hydraulic, or equipment repair certifications preferred. Bilingual English/Spanish helpful. Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs. or more. Ability to stand, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and work around equipment for extended periods. Ability to work in a shop environment with exposure to noise, fuel, oil, grease, fumes, dust, weather, and moving equipment. Ability to work outdoors or in the field when breakdowns occur.
