POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for building and maintaining a strong and successful relationship with the drivers in their Fleet. The Fleet Manager also serves as communication link between the Drivers and Customer Service. A Fleet Manager ensures that the Drivers are moving to cover freight and getting adequate miles to ensure maximum profitability for both the driver and company. The Fleet Manager directs the work of the Drivers in compliance with FMCSA Hours of Service Rules.

ESSENTIAL TASKS AND CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Establish positive rapport with drivers in assigned fleet and provide timely communication regarding load assignments, delays and other issues impacting driver time management.
• Review the previous days dispatch, which includes any communication from previous night and update location of unit status, also make sure all loaded and empty calls have been entered into the system.
• Check driver messages and perform necessary updates.
• Inform Customer Service of any service delays.
• Review estimated time of arrival for drivers and report delays for planning purposes.
• Review all accessorial charges and enter into system.
• Communicate with planner on driver status for inbound and outbound loads.
• Review log hours to match with available drivers and loads.
• Review pre-plans for acceptance and driver availability.
• Review outbound continually to cover loads with available drivers.
• Coordinate all dispatch information and extra pays, along with per-diem sheets for Payroll on Monday to ensure accurate pay and billing on loads.
• Complete EFS checks in advance on loads that require lumper fees.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Skills & Abilities

Computer Skills:

Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, along with the ability to adapt and learn new software as needed. Proficiency with McLeod software a plus.

• Management Skill s: Ability to organize and direct oneself and effectively supervise others.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Education :

• High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) required.
• Associates or Bachelor's Degree (College or Technical School) preferred.

Experience :

• Prior dispatch or fleet management experience preferred.
• Experience within the Transportation Industry preferred.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES

This position requires the ability to sit for extended periods of time, the ability to use hands or fingers to handle and reach. Requires sufficient dexterity to enter data and communicate electronically. Must be able to hear and speak to communicate sufficiently by telephone and in person, see sufficiently to examine documents and view a computer monitor.
