Job Description

Introduction The Department of Corrections is focused on public safety through the custody and supervision of those in our care. The Department of Corrections is currently recruiting to fill a Food Service Manager position. This position is based out of Winnebago Correctional Center in Winnebago, WI (Winnebago County). Position Summary This position is responsible for working with the Food Service Administrator in the management of the Food Service Program at the Wisconsin Correctional Center System. This position provides direct supervision, training and evaluation of Correction Food Service Leader 3 & 4, and resident workers involved in the production and distribution of approximately 2,300 meals per day. This position assigns work, trains and directs work of Correctional Sergeants related to food service, and provides staff assistance to the Food Service Administrator in managing day-to-day operations within the Food Service Department. This position will assume overall responsibility in the Food Service Department in the absence of the Food Service Administrator and will complete shift coverage in the absence of other Food Service staff as needed. Salary Information This position is in pay schedule and range 81-04 with a starting pay of $30.00/hour - $37.82/hour . Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. A probationary period is required. This position is FLSA Exempt. Anticipated schedule will be Monday - Friday 7:45 AM - 4:30 PM. Food service employee in this classification must have the ability to work up to 14 hours per day and more than 40 hours per week on any shift based on daily operational needs. This may include weekends and holidays. This position has physical requirements related to performing the job duties that involve being able to stand and move freely. This role will prepare food and inspect sanitation, which involves manipulating fine objects, operating appliances, and lifting freely up to 50 lbs. to perform necessary tasks, and may need to occasionally climb stairs. A full list is included with the position description. This position will travel routinely to assigned DOC worksites across the state. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must possess a valid driver's license at time of hire and employees will be required to maintain a valid driver's license during employment. Employees must obtain ServSafe Food Manager Certification (or equivalent) within six months of hire and maintain certification throughout employment.
Minimally qualified applicants will have:
Experience creating meal plans and standardized recipes Experience preparing meals and directing other workers in cooking and baking of foods, such as: meats, vegetables, breads, desserts, bag lunches and special occasion meals. Experience training or teaching others skills and tasks (such as: food preparation, cooking, baking, meat, cutting and processing). In addition to the above, well qualified applicants will have: Experience supervising staff (e.g., hiring, training, assigning and directing work, performance evaluations, discipline, dismissal, settling grievances, etc.) Experience with financial tasks (such as: cost control, managing inventory, generating purchasing specifications/justifications/requisitions, etc.) Experience or training in nutrition and modified or restricted diets.
