Posting Description The Foreman/Utility/Custodian is responsible for the routine safety, security, upkeep, general cleanliness, and maintenance of the educational environment, buildings and grounds owned by Newark Charter School. Foreman/Utility/Custodian communicates information relevant to the evening shift employees regarding functions/setups/areas needing attention that have been communicated by either the Director/Assistant Director of Facilities or a Building Chief Custodian in all Newark Charter School sites. Foreman/Utility/Custodian employee will assume other special responsibilities as needed and/or directed by the Chief Custodian/Assistant Director of Facilities or Director of Facilities.

Professional Expectations:
Selects appropriate equipment and supplies and sweeps and cleans floors, walls and partitions in all areas of buildings including classrooms, offices, corridors, gymnasiums, mechanical rooms, locker rooms, and lavatories. Uses brooms, brushes, mops, power-operated scrubbing machines, vacuum cleaners, buffers, carpet sweepers, liquid floor finishers, dust absorbers, and other custodial equipment and supplies. Wash and clean windows, light fixtures, ventilators, and other items which may require climbing more than eight feet. Clean and polish desks, chairs, tables, cabinets, and other office or classroom equipment. Collect and dispose of trash, scrap, and garbage. Maintain lavatories in clean and sanitary condition. Unload supplies and deliveries to proper storage areas. Perform grounds work as assigned including grass cutting, snow removal, etc. Perform routine safety and security duties. Perform preventative maintenance inspections and duties. Operate computerized energy management systems where installed. Able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Collaborate with building chiefs daily to effectively communicate work items to the evening shift. Provide communications to evening shift custodians daily. Assume additional responsibilities due to special circumstances. Make minor repairs to equipment as required. Assist any organization using school facilities. Arrange rooms for meetings and conferences. React to change productively and professionally Maintain regular on-time attendance. All other duties as assigned
Minimum Job Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalency. Five years of custodial experience and/or the equivalent. Good interpersonal communication skills. Valid driver's license. Experience in leadership preferred.
