Job Description
The Framer is responsible for building the structural framework of high‑quality custom homes and small commercial projects for Sussex Construction in the Helena area. This role works as part of a crew to frame floors, walls, roofs, and exterior elements safely, efficiently, and to plan. Key Responsibilities Read and follow plans, drawings, and layout directions from the Foreman and Project Manager. Measure, cut, and assemble lumber and other framing materials for floors, walls, roofs, decks, and stairs. Install sheathing, blocking, bracing, and temporary supports to keep structures plumb, level, and square. Set trusses and rafters using proper rigging, signaling, and fall‑protection practices. Install windows, exterior doors, and basic exterior trim as directed. Use hand and power tools (saws, nail guns, drills, levels) safely and correctly; maintain tools and report defects. Help receive, stage, and protect framing materials and hardware on site. Keep work areas clean and organized; participate in daily jobsite safety and housekeeping. Follow all Sussex Construction safety policies, PPE requirements, and toolbox‑talk guidance. Work professionally with homeowners, neighbors, inspectors, and trade partners, representing Sussex's quality and values. Qualifications Prior framing or residential carpentry experience preferred; strong construction labor experience will be considered. Ability to read a tape measure, use levels and squares, and follow basic framing layouts. Comfortable working at heights, on ladders, scaffolds, and roof surfaces. Able to lift, carry, and move materials up to 75 lbs repeatedly throughout the day. Reliable transportation to Helena‑area jobsites and a consistent, on‑time work history. Valid driver's license preferred; insurable driving record is a plus. Work Schedule & Environment Full‑time, primarily Monday-Thursday schedule during the main construction season when workloads allow, consistent with Sussex's four‑day workweek practice. Outdoor, year‑round work in varying Montana weather conditions. Residential and small commercial jobsites in and around Helena and nearby communities.
