Competitive hourly wage (commensurate with experience) Overview As a Counter Worker, you are the face of Forest Hills Bagels. You will be responsible for warmly greeting customers, taking highly customized orders accurately, and preparing a variety of bagels, spreads, and drinks in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate thrives under pressure, works well with a team, and understands the flow of a traditional New York bagel shop or deli morning rush.

Key Responsibilities:

Take Customer Orders:

Greet guests warmly and accurately take food and beverage orders at the counter, ensuring specific requests (e.g., customized breakfast sandwiches, specific cream cheese spreads, or grill items) are noted exactly.

Food & Order Preparation:

Efficiently slice and slice-and-spread bagels (cream cheese, lox, tofu spreads, etc.), pack cold cuts, build sandwiches, and assist with assembling online, delivery (UberEats, Grubhub, Toast), and catering orders.

Beverage Service:

Prepare hot and iced coffees, teas, hot chocolates, and specialty drinks from our juice and smoothie bar. Point of Sale (POS)

Operation:

Ring up orders accurately using our POS system, process cash and card payments, and handle transactions efficiently to keep the line moving.

Maintain Cleanliness:

Keep the counter area, display cases, coffee stations, and customer areas clean, sanitized, and fully stocked throughout the shift.

Team Collaboration:

Communicate effectively with grill cooks and fellow kitchen staff to ensure orders are completed accurately and pushed out rapidly.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Experience Required:

Proven experience working in a fast-paced bagel shop, delicatessen, bakery, or a similar high-volume food service environment taking and preparing orders.

Speed & Accuracy:

Ability to handle a high volume of orders during morning and lunch rushes without sacrificing order accuracy or food quality.

Customer Service Skills:

Friendly, high-energy personality with excellent communication and listening skills.

Reliability & Flexibility:

Dependable, punctual, and available to work full-time hours (40 hours a week), including early morning shifts and weekends.

Physical Stamina:

Ability to stand for long periods, move quickly, and lift up to 25 lbs as necessary. Familiarity with POS systems and handling cash/cards accurately.
