Full-Time, Exempt (Faculty) Position Overview Christ Community Lutheran School (CCLS), a ministry of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, is seeking a highly capable, experienced educator to serve as an Elementary Substitute Teacher for grades Kindergarten through 4th Grade. This is a salaried, faculty-level position designed for a skilled teacher who values consistency, collaboration, and meaningful contribution within a Christ-centered school community. The Elementary Substitute Teacher plays a vital role in supporting the mission of CCLS by ensuring continuity of instruction and joyfully supporting students and colleagues during teacher absences. Unlike traditional substitute roles, this position provides stability, full integration into the faculty, and a daily presence within the life of the school. This educator will be a trusted, familiar figure to students and staff—able to step seamlessly into classrooms while upholding the academic, behavioral, and spiritual expectations that define the CCLS experience. This role is ideal for an experienced educator who is adaptable, relationally strong, and deeply aligned with the mission of partnering with families to nurture students in both faith and learning. Key Responsibilities Instructional Coverage Provide high-quality classroom instruction in the absence of the regular teacher across grades K-4 Implement lesson plans with fidelity while maintaining instructional continuity Make sound, in-the-moment instructional decisions that support student learning Classroom Leadership Establish immediate rapport with students and maintain a structured, respectful classroom environment Uphold CCLS behavioral expectations and classroom routines Demonstrate strong classroom management across multiple grade levels Faculty Integration Serve as an engaged member of the elementary faculty, including participation in meetings, professional development, and school events Collaborate with teachers, specialists, and administrators to support a unified student experience Communicate clearly and professionally with staff, contributing to a supportive and collaborative faculty culture Proactive Support & Service Maintain a daily on-campus presence with a readiness to serve wherever needed On days when classroom coverage is minimal, proactively seek opportunities to assist—such as supporting small groups, helping with classroom preparation, assisting specialists, or contributing to school-wide needs Demonstrate a self-starter mindset and servant-hearted approach, joyfully stepping in to serve wherever there is need Leverage prior experience in school settings—ideally within Lutheran education—to integrate quickly and contribute meaningfully with minimal onboarding Structure of the Role Provides coverage across Kindergarten through 4th Grade classrooms Follows the faculty calendar and daily schedule expectations Assignments vary based on building needs, including both planned and unplanned absences Qualifications Bachelor's degree required; B.S. in Education preferred Valid state teaching certification (Elementary Education or related field) preferred Minimum of 3-5 years of successful classroom teaching experience strongly preferred Demonstrated strength in classroom management and instructional delivery Ability to quickly adapt to varied classroom environments and teaching styles Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills Commitment to the mission and values of CCLS and the Lutheran educational tradition Compensation & Benefits Salaried position starting at $43,000/year with annual cost-of-living increases Teachers who are Commissioned Ministers of Religion active on the LCMS roster will be issued a Divine Call Housing allowance eligible for Called Commissioned Ministers of Religion Eligible for full-time faculty benefits, including: Health and retirement benefits Paid school holidays and breaks Professional development opportunities Why This Role Matters At CCLS, every adult in the building contributes to our vision of transforming lives through Christ-centered education.
