Job Description

Serenity Ridge Retreat Center is a Bön Buddhist, values-driven non-profit organization in Shipman, VA. We provide a supportive and nourishing environment for spiritual seekers and meditators from a wide variety of backgrounds by offering retreats of various lengths with deeply experienced teachers. Serenity Ridge Retreat Center located in Shipman, VA is seeking a Full-Time Housekeeper/Kitchen Support to join our team. Kitchen Support Job Summary:
The individual in this role is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and orderliness throughout the retreat center and assisting in the preparation and service of meals. This dual-role position ensures that guests enjoy a clean environment and quality dining experiences.

Full-Time M-F except during scheduled retreats.

$16-18/hr

Serenity Ridge Employee Manual Key Responsibilities:
Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure the cleanliness of all community buildings throughout the center complex to maintain cleanliness, comfort, and aesthetics by following the housekeeping plan including protocols, schedules, and tasks (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, annually), including: Cleaning of all guest rooms, bathrooms and common areas before and after retreats Resolving housekeeping issues and special requests during retreats Performing ongoing deep cleaning and organizational projects between retreats Maintaining housekeeping inventory, making purchase orders, and distributing inventory orders related to housekeeping Replace lightbulbs and other fixtures as needed Maintain supply storage areas, including laundry storage, in a neat and clean manner Maintain housekeeping equipment and communicate the need for repair or replacement with the Center Manager Clean linens as needed and schedule linen pick up and delivery with the outside service provider (includes bedding, curtains, shower curtains, door hangings etc.) Support the Retreat Center with light maintenance tasks Serves as relief cook/dishwasher as required by the retreat schedule Assists retreat participants during working meditation periods, house cleaning tasks and food prep/kitchen tasks Reporting any needed repairs to the Operations Manager, other than those listed below in 'Retreat Center Light Maintenance' Handling various cleaning products in the correct way set forth by the Operations Manager, OSHA regulations, State Health Department, etc.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
General Ability to readily work independently and as a part of a team Ability to operate with little supervision in a quickly shifting work environment with multiple priorities and maintain a high level of performance Self-starter able to see what needs to be done and do it Attention to detail with excellent follow through and ability to prioritize work load Ability to follow detailed instructions and complete tasks in a timely manner Excellent organizational and time-management skills with ability to multitask Willingness to accept supervision and take direction when asked Ability to interact comfortably with people of various ages, economic classes, and cultural backgrounds Ability to work flexible hours, including some weekends Proficiency in or willingness to learn the Google suite applications (Google Drive, Mail, Docs, Sheets, Forms) in a collaborative work environment Excellent written and verbal communication skills - able to communicate clearly with a pleasant, warm, and personable demeanor, remaining patient even with difficult people Housekeeping Physically ability to operate cleaning equipment such as: vacuum cleaners, brooms, spray bottles Ability to skillfully and courteously address housekeeping needs and concerns of guests Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time throughout the day, including during active retreat operations and events. Ability to navigate indoor and outdoor environments, including uneven terrain, stairs, and varying weather conditions, as retreat settings may include natural or rural landscapes. Ability to lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to 25-50 pounds, such as supplies, equipment, food items, or program materials. Ability to set up, break down, and rearrange spaces, including tables, chairs, cushions, and light equipment used for retreats and events. Ability to remain physically present and attentive for prolonged periods, including consecutive long days during retreats. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position, in accordance with applicable law. Education/Experience High school diploma or higher Basic fluency in English is preferred Previous housekeeping, grounds and maintenance experience. (Retreat facility a plus) Minimum 1 year's experience working in a retreat center or other hospitality environment Knowledge of environmentally friendly cleaning agents and procedures Volunteer management and special events planning skills and experience Experience with personal meditation practice, Buddhist retreats, and contemplative spiritual practice Other requirements: Willing to work weekends and split shifts during retreats Respect for spiritual traditions of all kinds Must pass a criminal background check US citizen or with a valid green card
