The General Accountant [
I/II/III
] plays a vital role in supporting the financial integrity and operational success of S.C. Swiderski's construction, development, property management, and maintenance divisions. This position is responsible for general ledger accounting, reconciliations, financial reporting support, compliance with GAAP, and maintaining strong internal controls within a project-based and asset-intensive environment. The General Accountant collaborates closely with the Controller, Senior Accountant, Accounts Payable, Payroll, and cross-functional operational teams to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. This 3-level role progresses in independence, analytical depth, and organizational impact as the employee advances.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Level II, Individual Contributor The General Accountant - Level II performs, through their ability and experience, core general ledger and financial reporting responsibilities with minimal supervision. At this level the focus shifts toward processing and managing transactions for the Senior Accountant, Controller and CFO. They are reliable, consistent, and able to manage assigned accounting areas independently. Independently reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts and investigate discrepancies. Maintain and reconcile fixed asset and depreciation schedules. Assist in budget-to-actual reporting and provide supporting commentary. Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies. Assist in preparing documentation for audits and lender reviews. Identify opportunities for process improvements within accounting workflows. Collaborate cross-functionally with Construction, Development, Property Management, and HR to ensure financial accuracy.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Level II:
Lead General Accountant An associate or bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. 2-5 years of progressive accounting experience. Solid understanding of GAAP and internal controls. Experience preparing journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting schedules. Proficiency in Sage Intacct or comparable financial accounting system. Intermediate to advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis). Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Construction or real estate industry experience a plus. CPA eligibility or pursuit is a plus.
Work Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with extended hours as needed during month-end close, forecast cycles, and audits. Occasional travel may be required.
Work Environment:
Professional office setting at corporate headquarters with frequent interaction across Construction, Development, Procurement, and Property Management teams.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs. Prolonged periods of sitting and computer work. Clear speech and hearing to facilitate effective communication.
