Job Description
General Ledger Accountant - MelroseLeedstone is actively seeking a detail-oriented and organized General Ledger Accountant to add to our Accounting Team at our Melrose, MN location. This role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our company's financial records and will manage and maintain the general ledger, assist in preparing financial reports, reconciling accounts, and assisting in compliance assurance with financial regulations and internal controls. This individual will often collaborate with other departments and provide support during audits.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain and reconcile the general ledger accounts, ensuring accurate and timely entries.
- Post journal entries and ensure proper documentation and approval.
- Assist in monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
- Prepare and review accruals, prepayments, and adjustments to ensure accurate reporting.
- Perform periodic reconciliations of bank statements, intercompany accounts, and other balance sheet accounts.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies or variances in financial records.
- Assist in preparing financial statements, management reports, and analysis as needed.
- Assist in generating reports for regulatory filings, tax preparation, and audits.
- Adhere to accounting principles, company policies, and relevant financial regulations (e.g., GAAP, IFRS).
- Assist in identifying opportunities for automating and streamlining accounting processes.
- Participate in system upgrades and integration efforts related to financial systems.
- Work closely with other departments to ensure accurate and timely financial information.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- Minimum of 2-5 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in general ledger accounting or financial reporting.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Acumatica, QuickBooks, Peachtree) preferred.
- Advanced Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP) required.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and standards (GAAP/IFRS).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
