DESCRIPTION
The Genetic Counselor performs primary and/or follow up counseling of clients referred for genetic counseling in a predominantly prenatal setting. Serve as the designated expert and consultant of genetic counseling. Participate in satellite prenatal diagnosis clinics, or other genetics service lines as needed. Incumbent has involvement in clinical research and educational activities for health providers and lay groups as required. Participate in the design, administration and evaluation of specialized counseling programs, serving as the designated expert with specialized knowledge in genetics.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in Genetic Counseling from an accredited training program. Board Certified as a genetic counselor by the American Board of Genetic Counseling and a Licensed as a Genetic Counselor as allowed by California state legislation. At least three (3) years of experience in genetic counseling (post master's degree), at least one (1) of which should include administration, supervision, or major responsibilities for independent programs. Knowledge and experience in the field of medical genetics, especially the basic principles of genetic counseling and the ability to apply knowledge from the areas of obstetrics, dysmorphology, and other related medical specialties. Demonstrated counseling skill and ability to provide genetic counseling with minimal supervision. Ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary genetics/health team while providing genetic counseling. Knowledge of research techniques to develop, implement, and evaluate genetics research projects. Ability to deliver presentations to professional and lay groups. Required Demonstrated skill in writing comprehensive counseling reports. Required Demonstrated awareness of psychological aspects of genetic counseling and ability to interact effectively with clients and families in stressful situations. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to effectively relate with clients and families, genetic counseling team, and other health professionals. Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient medical information. Ability to function independently while completing assigned responsibilities.

Bilingual:
English/Spanish.

Pay Transparency Act Annual Full Pay Range:
$114,640 - $151,287 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent:
$54.90 - $72.46 Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
