Qualifications:
Working knowledge of Next Generation Learning Standards and NY state assessments The ability and commitment to use technology as an instructional tool Availability to work the entire summer session

Courses of focus: Current junior high school students
  • classes in ELA, mathematics, and science (1 hour of each per day) Current high school students

Structure:
Teachers are expected to work as scheduled for classes and on Regents Exam and Regents scoring days Teachers facilitating a course or prep must be able to work on exam days Teachers must secure and confirm their own substitute but are expected to be available to work the entire session. Staff with planned vacations need not apply.
Curriculum & Instruction:
Junior High focus will be on ELA, mathematics, and science High School focus

  • focus will be decided on by Department Chairs in consultation with the Coordinator Exam Prep
  • content focus on test taking, target vocabulary, test question format, et cetera Students scheduled to take a Regents exam during the summer are expected to attend Regents review classes
Student Profile:
Junior High School Students:
students who are currently receiving Tier 2 or Tier 3 supports and/or who are failing a course
High School Students:
Failure of a course
  • students who achieved a 50-64 in a course during the school year Failure of a Regents exam
Program Coordinator Responsibilities:
Facilitate planning & preparation, in consultation with the building administrator, for the extended learning program Create and distribute a staff and student handbook & welcome letters Facilitate staff meetings Facilitate all aspects of registration with clerical support Collaborate with food service Facilitate lockdown and fire drills during the summer session Maintain regular communication with staff throughout the summer session and offer support as needed Develop a plan for student assessment and compile student performance data at the conclusion of the programs Provide on-site supervision throughout all student sessions Collaborate with technology, guidance, clerical staff to maintain scheduling, attendance, reporting and grading data Address student management issues in conjunction with the school mediator and school counselor Develop protocol for teacher coverage due to unexpected absences Complete end of summer summary report (including data) Completion of all documentation as needed Prepare and distribute data regarding student performance and attendance Other duties as assigned by a district administrator
Connexus Coordinator Responsibilities:
Set up all student participants in the Connexus system and assign courses as scheduled that must be aligned to courses offered to Lockport students Monitor and adjust Connexus software as needed throughout the program Maintain course completion data throughout the program and prepare a summary report at the end of the summer session to be shared with staff and administration Provide technical support to students and staff (if needed) in the Connexus program throughout the session Provide academic assistance to students using the Connexus software Consult with content area teachers as needed in order to better assist students with completing tasks in the Connexus software Assist with exam proctoring and grading as scheduled by the coordinator Other duties as assigned by the coordinator or an administrator
Responsibilities of Classroom Teacher:
Facilitate engaging, student-centered, instructional experiences for students Participate in weekly communications with coordinator Assess student performance and maintain performance data Complete daily student attendance tracking Differentiate activities to meet the needs of diverse learners Complete all required paperwork including pay sheets, grading, etc. Other duties as assigned by the coordinator or an administrator
Responsibilities of Exam Prep Teacher:
Facilitate targeted lessons incorporating vocabulary development, test question format, and study guides Participate in communications with coordinator Assess student performance on practice Regents exams Complete daily student attendance tracking Differentiate activities to meet the needs of diverse learners Complete all required paperwork including pay sheets, grading, etc. Other duties as assigned by the coordinator or an administrator
Responsibilities of School Counselor:
Assist with registration for students Assist with arrival and dismissal procedures and supervision (remain with students) Assist with student behavior Facilitate peer conflict mediation Remain visible in hallways and classrooms throughout the ENTIRE program hours Assist with attendance calls Other duties as assigned by the coordinator or an administrator
Responsibilities of School Mediator/Logistics Facilitator:
Assist with arrival and dismissal procedures and supervision (remain with students) Assist with student behavior Facilitate peer conflict mediation Remain visible in hallways throughout the ENTIRE program hours Assist with attendance calls Other duties as assigned by the coordinator or an administrator
Responsibilities of Clerical Staff:
Assist with distributing correspondence Assist with student registration tasks Assist with preparing materials/copying/etc. Respond to correspondence (email, telephone calls, mail) Filing Other duties as assigned by the coordinator or an administrator
Responsibilities of School Nurse:
Coordinate & distribute list of medical alerts for classroom teachers Provide medical care to students during the summer school sessions Ensure staff complete Epipen and AED training Communicate with parents/legal guardians as needed Other duties as assigned by the coordinator or administrator
