Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Empower young learners and make a lasting impact by supporting students with diverse needs in a vibrant, year-round educational setting. This contract opportunity allows you to work with elementary students in specialized Autism programs, from Kindergarten to 5th grade, in an inclusive and collaborative school environment near Schenectady, NY.
Three positions are available:
K-2 Autism Program, 1st-3rd Autism Program, and 3rd-5th Autism Program. The assignment runs from July 13, 2026, through June 24, 2027, aligning with a year-round school calendar that observes traditional holiday and spring breaks.
Key Qualifications:
Active New York State certification in Special Education (Students with Disabilities) or in the process of obtaining certification; recent graduates and out-of-state license holders are encouraged to inquire, as support for transferring credentials is available. Bachelor's degree required; master's degree strongly preferred for this role. Demonstrated experience in writing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students with special needs. Previous experience in Autism support programs is advantageous. Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and communicate with families.
Responsibilities:
Design and implement individualized instruction for students in a K-5 Autism program. Develop, write, and update IEPs in accordance with state and federal guidelines. Create supportive and engaging classroom environments tailored to varied learning needs. Partner with educational staff and families to foster student growth and achievement. Participate in professional development and contribute to team meetings. Compensation for this contract position ranges from $35 to $47 per hour, based on experience and education.
