Job Description:
Position Summary As a professional level staff member in training, the Graduate Assistant shall have accountability for the Fitchburg State University Commuter Affairs Program, assisting with the following: commuter life programmatic initiatives, development of new Commuter initiatives, and support of the Commuter Lounge. The Graduate Assistant shall also have accountability for the Hammond Hall Game Room, assisting with the maintenance of equipment, managing programmatic efforts within the Game Room, and assisting student clubs that book the space. This position supervises the student employees working in the Commuter Lounge and Game Room.
Requirements:
Specific Duties:
Create and implement Commuter and Game Room related programming opportunities. Assist with the publicity of related events and initiatives. Maintain a database of Commuter students to create specified outreach around programming and other Commuters specific initiatives. Track the use of the Commuter Affairs budget. Oversee the reservation of the Commuter Lockers. Support the Hammond Hall Campus Center Employment Program with the direct supervision of The Commuter Lounge and Game Room student employment areas. Work with clubs and organizations that program within the Game Room to enhance their programming efforts. Participate in a rotation with the professional staff, directly supervise the operations for evening and weekend programs as assigned (minimum 2 nights a week on average). Collaborate with Graduate Assistants in OSE and CDI on assigned projects. Coordinate marketing efforts for OSE, in collaboration with the Office Administrative Assistant and fellow Graduate Assistants through; Print Media, Social Media, Event Log, and Campus Center marketing. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Good written and verbal communication skills; strong customer service orientation; ability to interact well with the diverse segments of the Fitchburg State University community. The successful candidate will be a mature, responsible, independent thinker, who demonstrates flexibility and good problem solving skills. Preference will be given to candidates with previous programming of events experience.

Compensation:
Graduate Assistant will be paid $12,000.00 for the academic year beginning August 17, 2026 and ending June 30, 2027 providing for an approximate biweekly stipend between $500.00 and $525.00 (if Assistant is graduating in May 2027, their last day cannot be after Graduate Commencement). Assistants will work for 20 hours a week for 40 weeks in order to earn the full stipend. The appointment and award include a tuition and fees waiver for up to 15 semester hours of graduate course work for the academic year of the appointment. Position is contingent on applicants being accepted into the University's Graduate Program. Fitchburg State University is an equal opportunity employer.
