Job Summary:
This position is responsible for preparing, maintaining, and managing financial work papers and records related to federal, state, and local grants. This position supports Educational Services in the preparation and submission of grant applications, reimbursement claims, and ongoing communication with staff responsible for grant administration. The Grant Accounting Specialist monitors grant expenditures to ensure compliance with approved budgets, funding requirements, and purchasing parameters. Responsibilities also include assisting with grant management activities related to the Iowa Certified Annual Report and Annual Comprehensive Financial Report. In addition, this position cross-trains in other business office systems, workflows, financial reporting functions, and accounts payable processes to support overall departmental operations.
Hiring Specifications:
Education Associate's degree in accounting or other related Business field Bachelor's degree preferred Certification None required. Experience One or more years of accounting experience Experience working with grants, specifically funding requirements, preferred Skills, Knowledge & Abilities Knowledge of budgeting and competent understanding of various accounting and reporting systems. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing Proficient in the use of personal computer and the use of spreadsheet software for financial analysis and reporting Ability to work effectively, cooperatively and respectfully with staff, parents and community members regardless of race, creed, color, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, ethnic/national origin, religion, marital status, age, socio-economic status or disability Ability to organize work procedures, set goals and meet deadlines in a competent manner Ability to work in a team setting to achieve the financial goals of the district Ability to analyze needs and propose effective solutions Ability to recognize sensitive issues and maintain confidentiality Technology Requirements Basic computer skills (Computer navigation, email, web browser, Employee Portal) Intermediate computer skills (Google Suites, search function, and student information systems) High computer skills (Excel, electronic file management, State-based financial reporting systems)

Job Duties:
Compiles financial information and completes applicable reports following specified guidelines. Gathers and analyzes financial grant data to report to grant supervisors. Collaborates with Education Services and other departments on filing of grants and other grant related duties. Identifies discrepancies in grant requirements and notifies Education Services or other departments for resolution. Communicates with district personnel regarding grant financial requirements. Communicates with grant entities. Supports accounts payable and other business office functions when necessary. Assists with the coordination, processing, and organization of district contract workflows and related documentation. Greets and assists visitors, answers and directs incoming phone calls, and provides general reception and customer service support for the Business Office. Performs other duties as assigned by Associate Director of Finance or Chief Financial Officer.
