Group Exercise Director Schererville Family YMCA - Schererville, IN 46375 Apply Overview Position Type Full Time Apply Description Pay starting at $21.00 per hour and up based on experience Ready to make an impact? Join us as Group Exercise Director and help create healthier communities while launching one of the largest fitness floors in the region and three new group exercise studios this fall. POSITION SUMMARY
As the Group Exercise Director, you'll lead a high-energy, member-facing environment overseeing group exercise (land and aquatic) and the wellness floor. This role requires a balance of people leadership, operational oversight, and hands-on engagement to ensure a safe, inclusive, and motivating experience for all. You'll be visible, active, and adaptable—supporting staff, engaging members, and stepping in where needed to keep operations running smoothly. What You'll Do Lead and grow group exercise programs (studio and aquatic) Oversee wellness floor operations, safety, and member engagement Recruit, hire, schedule, and develop instructors and wellness staff Evaluate performance and provide ongoing coaching Ensure staff certifications remain current Monitor participation, satisfaction, and program effectiveness Maintain equipment and program spaces Support marketing, events, and fundraising initiatives Manage department budget and meet financial goals This Role Is for You If… You enjoy being on the floor and actively engaged with members and staff You're energized by a fast-paced, people-centered environment You're comfortable leading diverse teams and giving real-time feedback You can juggle multiple priorities without losing attention to detail You're flexible with your schedule, including evenings and weekends You take pride in creating welcoming, inclusive fitness spaces This Role Is Not for You If… You prefer a desk-based role with minimal member interaction You're uncomfortable addressing performance or accountability issues You need a schedule with no evenings or weekends You're not comfortable being hands-on in both fitness and aquatic environments You struggle in fast-moving environments with shifting priorities Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience Minimum 2 years of fitness or wellness leadership experience Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills Ability to engage diverse populations Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 Our benefits include access to UnitedHealthcare Medical coverage, along with complimentary dental and vision care for employees.
