Job Summary:
This position supervises and directs the activities and programs in Chisholm center year round. This position includes technical recreation work involving responsibility for activities at the public recreational center. Work is performed under the supervision of the Chisholm Center Director.
Job Description:
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • May assist in the supervision of parks and recreation programs during many programs seven days a week.
  • Schedules activities and summer day trips including reservations and collections.
  • Conducts public relations with other DeLand organizations, businesses, and civic groups.
  • Maintains telephone and personal contact for both Center activities and public information.
  • Schedules any extra activities.
  • Supervises and plans summer camp program and two holiday camps per year.
  • Organizes and plans large special events such as Annual Easter Egg Hunt and Halloween Contest.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • High school or general education degree (GED) from an accredited institution is required.
  • Extensive experience in recreational work is required.
  • Courses taken in Recreation or related fields is preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered for minimum requirements.
LICENSES AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must pass a state of Florida Level 2 background.
Must be American Red Cross or American Heart Association Heart saver First Aid/CPR/AED certified or get certified within six (6) months of hire. Possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to provide good customer service and deal with the general public in a professional, courteous manner.
  • Ability to develop and maintain good personal relationship with other employees and the public.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.
REASONING ABILITY
  • Ability to follow and apply common sense understanding, to carry out instructions furnished in written and oral form.
  • Exercise independent judgment in the performance of specifically assigned responsibilities.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations when immediate guidance from the supervisor may not be available.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of objectives, operation, and programs of public recreation. Good knowledge of safety factors.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to put legs, feet, or hands in water, and may work in noisy conditions.
