Exempt Leland and Gray High School is seeking a passionate and skilled Woodworking Teacher to lead our Hand Woodworking/Traditional Fine Woodworking and Fine Woodworking Apprenticeship programs. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in hand-tool woodworking and a deep appreciation for traditional techniques.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following. Other duties may be assigned. This class is a hand-tool woodworking class. Knowledge and expert use of hand saws, chisels, various planes, and other hand tools is a requirement. Handwork includes flattening and sizing lumber, cutting mortise/tenon, and dovetail joints. Must be able to manage separate lesson plans for multiple students. Understanding and supporting different learning styles and rates is a necessity. Instruct students in the fundamentals of hand tool woodworking, including wood selection, hand tool skills, design, and scale drawing. Guide students through self-directed woodworking projects. Instruct and supervise antique restoration, including understanding antique styles, building methodologies, and repair techniques. Mentor and guide students in the Fine Woodworking Apprenticeship program, ensuring they develop a sound foundation in hand tool use and maintenance. Oversee the development of student portfolios and exhibitions of their work. Maintain a safe and organized workshop environment.Qualifications:
Education and Experience. Bachelor's degree and working knowledge of WCSU and Vermont adopted standards required. Certifications and Licenses. Holds or is eligible to hold a Vermont Teaching License. Holds or is eligible for the appropriate endorsement(s) for assignment. Strong foundation in hand tool woodworking techniques. Knowledge of antique restoration methods. Ability to guide and mentor students in project development and execution. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Passion for woodworking and a commitment to student success.SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Reports to and receives general administrative direction from the Administration Leadership Team. Evaluated by the School Principal and/or his/her administrator designee. May receive some technical direction from the Central Office Leadership Team.Position Type:
