The Head Baseball Coach is responsible for leading and developing a competitive baseball program that aligns with the mission ofFarmington Public Schools:
to positively impact Every Student Every Day. This role goes beyond athletic performance, focusing on building character, fostering relationships, and equipping student-athletes with the confidence and skills to pursue their dreams. It is also responsible for all leadership aspects of the Baseball Program. In addition, this position includes classroom teaching responsibilities and requires the coach to serve as a professional educator, collaborative staff member, and positive contributor to the school team. The coach is expected to provide effective instruction, support school-wide goals, work cooperatively with colleagues and administration, and model professionalism in both the classroom and athletic setting.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned. ? Follows and maintains knowledge of all District policies and procedures. ? Serves as a classroom instructor, acts professionally, and provides quality instruction. ? Instructs and demonstrates baseball-specific skill sets and techniques necessary for individual and team achievement (hitting, pitching, fielding, base running, situational play). ? Plans and sets up practices, scrimmages, and games by level. ? Oversees preparation and maintenance of the baseball field and facilities (dugouts, bullpens, batting cages, infield/outfield conditions). ? Ensures certified coaches are present at all practices and games. ? Develops appropriate conditioning and training programs, including arm care and injury prevention, and implements daily practice schedules. ? Ensures proper cleaning, storage, and maintenance of all baseball equipment (bats, balls, protective gear, uniforms, field equipment) and submits updated inventories. ? Arranges transportation for athletic participants as approved by the Athletic Director. ? Arranges hotel accommodations for overnight events as approved by the Athletic Director. ? Travels with or drives student athletes on the team bus to and from games. ? Adheres to all financial policies regarding the collection and disbursement of money, expenses, and receipts. ? Makes recommendations to the Athletic Director regarding uniforms, equipment, and facility needs. ? Works with the Athletic Director in preparing practice and game schedules. ? Maintains necessary records including pitch counts, statistics, rosters, and required paperwork, in a timely manner. ? Ensures all required forms (insurance, attendance, medical clearance) are completed and up to date. ? Ensures all student-athletes meet eligibility requirements and are physically prepared for participation. ? Enforces discipline policies and emphasizes sportsmanship, teamwork, and healthy lifestyles. ? Supervises student athletes in locker rooms, dugouts, and travel settings to ensure appropriate behavior and safety. ? Secures facilities, equipment, and field areas after practices and games. ? Ensures compliance with all rules and regulations regarding athletic conduct and eligibility (AAA and District guidelines). ? Maintains a safe environment and ensures the safety of the field and indoor facilities at all times. ? Ensures medical and safety protocols are followed, including reporting injuries within 24 hours and following up with parents and administration. ? Reports AAA certifications and obtains Athletic Director approval for all volunteers. ? Submits rosters, inventories, statistics, and award lists as required throughout and after the season. ? Collaborates with the Athletic Director and other head coaches on off-season programs, including strength training, camps, and player development. ? Assigns duties and supervises assistant coaches, including off-season responsibilities. ? Promotes the baseball program within the school and community. ? Interacts professionally with students, parents, staff, officials, and media. ? Maintains confidentiality and professionalism in all matters. ? Represents the school and District positively at all times. ? Attends required meetings and ensures that assistant coaches participate. ? Maintains required certifications and professional development hours. ? Maintains regular attendance and punctuality. ? Regular attendance at booster club and/or foundation meetings.MARGINAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
? Attends in-service trainings and staff meetings as needed. ? Sanitizes and cleans equipment in accordance with CDC guidelines. ? Inspects fields and facilities for safety concerns. ? Supervises athletic events as needed.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
All school employees share responsibility for supervising students and maintaining a safe environment.QUALIFICATIONS
? Bachelor's Degree (BA) or higher with coaching certification. ? Demonstrated ability to coach and develop student athletes in baseball. ? Strong knowledge of baseball fundamentals, rules, and strategy. ? Ability to build relationships and lead a program across multiple grade levels. ? Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills. ? Knowledge of adolescent development and behavior management. ? Ability to use technology, including email and basic software. ? Valid certifications as required (CPR/First Aid, coaching certification, etc.). ? CDL endorsement.PHYSICAL DEMANDS
? Ability to demonstrate baseball skills, including throwing, hitting, fielding, and running. ? Frequent standing, walking, bending, throwing, and physical activity. ? Ability to lift up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally. ? Outdoor work in varying weather conditions.WORK ENVIRONMENT
? Outdoor athletic fields and practice facilities. ? Exposure to heat, cold, and weather conditions typical of baseball season. ? Moderate to high noise levels during games and practices. ? Potential exposure to bodily fluids and bloodborne pathogens. OTHER ? This job description is not exhaustive and may be modified by the District as needed. ?
