Show up, run people through a workout, go home. This isn't that. Ativo Fitness is a small group personal training gym located in Middleton, MA, serving adults and youth athletes from Andover, North Andover, North Reading, Topsfield, and Boxford. We're hiring a full-time head coach and strength coach to lead our training program and own the daily member experience. We keep sessions small on purpose. Every member has a program. Every coach knows every member by name, by history, and by what they're working toward. We've built something that actually works for people who've tried everything else, and we're looking for a strength and conditioning coach who gets why that matters. This role is full-time, W-2, and requires a Certified Functional Strength Coach (CFSC) credential. If you're an experienced personal trainer or strength coach looking for a head coaching role with real responsibility and real impact, keep reading. This role carries real weight You'll be the person our members see most. More than anyone else at Ativo, you are the daily experience of this gym. Members will trust you with their bodies, their progress, and their time. That's not a small thing. This role will challenge you. Programming for a diverse membership, coaching back-to-back sessions on early mornings, managing operations, and doing it all at a consistently high level is a lot to carry. We're not looking for someone who can handle it on a good day. We're looking for someone who rises to it. If that sounds like pressure, it might not be the right fit. If it sounds like exactly what you've been looking for, keep reading. What this role is You'll be the head coach and Director of Programming at Ativo. You own what happens on the floor and what drives it: the training program, session quality, member experience, and the day-to-day operations that keep everything running well. This is a full-time W-2 position. You'll work alongside the owner, with real input into how the gym operates and grows. What you'll do Design and manage our training programming across all member populations, including our adult program and Ativo Athlete, our youth training program for middle and high school athletes. Coach sessions. Know your members. Catch form breakdowns before they become injuries. Push people who need pushing. Back off when that's the right call. Build the kind of trust that keeps people coming back for years.
Own operational responsibilities:
scheduling, equipment, team coordination, and whatever else keeps the gym running the way it should. Schedule and Availability This is a full-time role that requires your full professional focus. The schedule, responsibilities, and member relationships this role demands aren't compatible with outside coaching commitments or conflicting employment. This role requires the ability to coach 15-18 small group sessions per week. Our schedule runs heavy on early mornings, with rotating Saturdays and a couple of evenings per week. If early mornings aren't your thing, this probably isn't your role. What we're looking for Certified Functional Strength Coach (CFSC) required. Additional credentials (CSCS, NSCA-CPT, NASM-CPT) a plus. 3+ years of hands-on coaching experience, not just certification hours. You've coached real people through real problems. You know the difference between a program that looks good on paper and one that actually works. You understand strength training. You know how to progress a member over months and years, not just design a tough workout. You're a communicator. With members, with ownership, with the team. You don't wait for things to become a problem. You want to be part of building something, not just filling a role. Experience with youth athletic training is a plus. Compensation This role is structured as a per-session coaching rate plus a task-based salary for off-floor responsibilities. Total first-year compensation typically lands in the $48,000
  • 52,000 range, with real upside through our growing youth athletic program and personal training opportunities.
